Abstract:
A multi-ply tissue includes a first cellulosic embossed ply having an emboss pattern applied over a portion of its surface and a second cellulosic embossed ply of tissue. The first ply is contact laminated to the second ply so that the primary adhesion between the plies of tissue is the result of contact between cellulosic fibers. The first and second plies contact one another in contact areas, with the contact areas between the first and second plies defining compliant voids. The contact areas between the first ply and the second ply are elongated and/or rounded contact areas. A method of forming a multi-ply tissue involves conveying a base sheet through a nip between an impression roll and a pattern roll to produce an embossed base sheet having a back side possessing projections, applying adhesive to the back side of the embossed base sheet at spaced apart locations, and applying a flat backing sheet to the back side of the embossed base sheet so that the backing sheet adheres to the back side of the embossed base sheet at said spaced apart locations. A method of producing an embossed tissue involves successively conveying a base sheet through a nip between a first impression roll and a pattern roll, and conveying the base sheet through another nip between the pattern roll and a second impression roll, wherein the second impression roll is made of rubber having a lower hardness than the rubber from which the first impression roll is made.
Abstract:
A process for making continuous stretchable substrate products comprising the steps of supplying a web of stretchable substrate having a first surface and a second surface, embossing at least one of the surfaces of the web substrate with an embossed image using at least one embossing roller, printing at least one of the surfaces of the web substrate with a printed image using at least one printing roller; wherein the embossed image and the printed image are disposed onto the substrate relative to each other such that a print/emboss registration is created, measuring the angular location of one embossing roller and translating that location into a digital signal, measuring the angular location of one printing roller and translating that location into a digital signal, manually zeroing the print/emboss registration; and automatically controlling the print and emboss rolls to maintain registration using a control program that comprises the steps of i) comparing the digital signal from the embossing roller and the digital signal from the printing roller, and ii) correcting the angular location and angular speed of either the embossing roller or the printing roller.
Abstract:
A method for producing a multi-ply embossed product including the steps of: providing two or more plies of material to a lamination apparatus, each ply having a lamination surface; laminating one ply of the two or more plies of material to at least one other of the two or more plies of material to provide a laminated web having a first lamination pattern; directing the laminated web to a separate embossing apparatus; and embossing the laminated web in a second pattern to provide an embossed web, wherein the embossing step takes place after the laminated web is laminated.

Abstract:
For the production of a sheet product including at least two layers (V1, V2) it is suggested, among other things, an embossing device including a first pressure roller (5; 105) interacting with a first and a second embossing cylinder (1, 3; 101, 103) provided with respective points (1P, 3P, 101P, 103P) on their cylindrical surface.
Abstract:
The object of the present invention is an absorbent paper product including at least three plies, and a method of manufacture therefore. The absorbent paper product is of an approximate specific surface weight between 36 and 105 g/m2, and includes at least three plies, namely a central ply and two embossed upper and lower outer plies each including salient patterns composed of at least in part discrete protrusions. The plies are joined by joining at least part of the protrusions of each of the outer plies to the central ply. At least one of the outer plies has a pattern density larger than 30 protrusions/cm2. The embossed lower outer ply (2) includes combined high and low patterns (5 and 7) of respective heights (H) and (h). The central ply (4) and the embossed upper outer ply (3) are joined in the nested mode to the embossed lower outer ply (2) at the level of at least part of the tops of the high pattern (5) of height (H) of the embossed lower outer ply (2).

Abstract:
Disposable paper products, such as paper toweling, are provided with an indicator means which is disposed on said disposable paper product in a discontinuous or combination discontinuous/continuous pattern. The indicator means gives a visually recognizable signal to a user that desirable properties of the disposable paper product are maintained, even after the disposable paper product has become wetted with a substantially transparent aqueous liquid. The wet gray scale difference for the disposable paper product of the present invention is at least about 64 gray scale units when the disposable paper product is wetted with a substantially transparent aqueous liquid.
Abstract:
A method of printing color images which includes the formation of a pattern of three primary color separated halftones of the image from a medium applied to a substrate. The medium is embossed to form a surface relief configuration on each halftone image. Each surface relief configuration reflects one specific primary color at a specific angle. In one embodiment, the medium is applied to a substrate in the pattern of color separated halftone images in a single printing pass by a composite offset printing plate. The medium is then embossed by an embossing plate to create the surface relief configurations thereon. In a second embodiment, the medium is applied to the substrate and embossed by a single plate in a single printing pass. In a third embodiment, the medium is applied to the substrate in a relatively continuous layer and thereafter embossed to simultaneously create a pattern of color separated halftones of the image and a different surface relief configuration on each halftone image. In a fourth embodiment, the medium is applied to the substrate in a relatively continuous layer and thereafter embossed to form a plurality of surface relief configurations thereon. The halftone images are then formed on the embossed medium to produce a full color image by applying a coating over the portions of the medium where the primary colors should not be reflected.
