Provision is made of a carrier for holding a piece film cut every after several frames and a carrier for holding a long wound film contained in a cartridge and having a motor for frame-feeding. When the carrier is loaded, the carrier is driven at a high speed by a first stepping motor and is driven to a predetermined position, to optically detect whether the carrier is for holding the piece film or for holding the long wound film. When the carrier is for holding the piece film, the carrier is driven at a high speed by the first stepping motor and is prescanned. When the carrier is for holding the long wound film, the carrier is driven by a second stepping motor and is prescanned. In the main scanning, both of the carriers are driven by the second stepping motor at a low speed, so that image is read maintaining a high resolution.

A scanner is so arranged that a quantity of light reaching a CCD sensor can be kept constant with a change in reading position. In case a light source (3) and a reading optical unit (4) are driven independent of each other, variations in feed amount inevitably occur. To deal with it, a test chart of a specified length is first read to measure moving amounts of the light source (3) and the reading optical unit (4). Then, the reading optical unit (4) is moved by a predetermined amount. The light source (3) is moved as effecting a correction based on the moving amounts initially measured. Then, a one-line reading process is carried out to scan an image on a document.

A scan type laser marking device which scans the surface of an object conveyed in a predetermined area and applies a laser beam to the surface of the object to form a mark on the surface of the object comprises: an area storing section for storing the area; a start point coordinate storing section for storing coordinates of an irradiation start point in the area, the irradiation start point being located upstream relating to the direction of conveyance of the object; an end point coordinate storing section for storing coordinates of an irradiation end point in the area, the irradiation being located downstream relating to the direction of conveyance of the object; a mark reference point section for storing the coordinates of a reference point on the mark; and speed setting means for setting scanning speeds so that a marking operation is started when the mark reference point reaches the irradiation start point, and is ended when the mark reference point reaches the irradiation end point.

The invention relates to a method for capturing and printing paper documents in which the document is scanned and stored in a first step, having been introduced or inserted into a combined printer/scanner device, printed with a piece of additional information in a second step, and then scanned and stored again in a subsequent third step, said document passing along the same conveyor path in each individual step. This method allows simplification of the processing and editing of documents which are to be amended, and allows them to be captured and stored in a simple manner in the two different states.
