Scanner apparatus include a scanner having a scanbed that is positioned to place an object to be scanned in a scan field of the scanner. A configurable field segmentor is positioned adjacent the scanbed that demarcates a plurality of fields within the scan field. The field segmentor may be one or more scan guides configured for placement in one of a plurality of demarcation locations adjacent the scanbed. Alternatively, the field segmentor may be one or more templates configured for placement adjacent the scanbed.

A framing aid for a handheld document capture device such as a digital camera, comprising two pattern generators (10,20) generating convergent patterns (14, 24) that are in register on a target object plane. Triangulation between the two pattern generators (10,20) and using superimposed or complementary patterns (14,24) ensures that the hand held device (1) is correctly arranged at a predetermined range and orientation above a document to be captured, such that the document is accurately framed within the field of view of the capture device (1).

Provided is an image reading apparatus that can read an image with highly accurate and stable density and color while illuminating the image with a color sequential projector thereof. The image reading apparatus according to the present invention includes: an image pickup unit configured to image an original that is mounted on a mounting surface; a projecting unit configured to project an image on the mounting surface by sequentially switching and emitting light of a plurality of colors; and a control unit configured to control the projecting unit so as to project a first black image, a first color image, and a second black image in this order during the imaging by the image pickup unit.

An apparatus may include a transparent platen, a command interface, a scanner unit, a controller and an indicator. The command interface is to receive externally originating instructions including a selected scaling value, other than 100%, for a scanning operation of a document resting against the transparent platen, wherein contents of the document to be scanned are proportionally magnified or shrunk based on the selected scaling value The controller controls a scanner unit to capture a portion of the transparent platen, the portion having borders automatically determined and proportionally changed by the controller based upon the selected scaling value. The indicator provides a visible indication of the portion.

An image recording method is disclosed. The image recording device has a camera having an image sensor and an objective lens, wherein the camera defines an image recording region, and the image sensor has a capture area having a plurality of image pixels which can be activated and read out in pixel groups, and a marking unit having a light source. The emission of the marking light is performed such that a visually perceptible light marking is generated inside the image recording region, and is performed in a predetermined manner to generate light marking within a light incidence region, which forms a subregion of the image recording region and the image capture is performed using chronologically offset collection, pixel group by pixel group, of exposure information, wherein the emission of the marking light is interrupted for the collection of the exposure information for each pixel group.

An image reading device includes a contact glass having a document placing surface, an index part to be an index for aligning a corner of a document to a reference point within the document placing surface, a reading portion configured to read the document, and a light emitting portion configured to emit linear light extending in a main scanning direction. When a predetermined point apart from the index part within the document placing surface is set as the reference point, the light emitting portion moves in a sub-scanning direction so that a region of the contact glass irradiated with the linear light coincides with the predetermined point, and emits the linear light.
