    Abstract: A sensitized record sheet material is disclosed, suitable for developing color in oily, colorless, chromogenic dye-precursor inks applied thereto. Said record sheet material has a light, reactive, coating which comprises a zinc compound and a salicylic acid derivative combinded in, and applied from, an aqueous system of basic pH. The coating composition is also disclosed, as is the process for making it.

    Abstract: A pressure-sensitive record material comprising the colorless chromogenic dye Pyridyl Blue mixed with and adsorbed onto a pigment which is coated on a substrate sheet, and capsules containing an acidic resin dissolved in a suitable solvent, the capsules being coated on the same or an additional sheet. This "reverse" system (where the acidic resin rather than the dye is encapsulated) provides an improved community of properties, including improved image strength, print stability (fade resistance) and resistance to degradation. Pyridyl Blue is a mixture of the isomers 7-(1-ethyl-2-methylindol-3-yl)-7-(4-diethylamino-2-ethoxyphenyl)-5,7-d ihydrofuro[3,4-b]pyridin-5-one and 5-(1-ethyl-2-methylindol-3-yl)-5-(4-diethylamino-2-ethoxyphenyl)-5,7-d ihydrofuro[3,4-b]pyridin-7-one.

    Abstract: 1348961 Record sheets NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO 22 May 1972 [14 June 1971] 23875/72 Heading D2B Record sheets for use in pressure-sensitive copying processes comprise a supporting sheet carrying an oil-soluble phenol-formaldehyde resin and/or a base-reacting, colourless, chromogenic dye-precursor and a -metal salt or complex soluble in a solvent for the resin and dye-precursor. The common solvent for the reactants may be contained in microcapsules. In self-contained papers, the encapsulated solvent is isolated from the reactants, but in a couplet system it may be carried on one of the sheets separately or together with one of the reactants. The solvent may be a paraffin oil, xylene, alkylated biphenyl, dioctyl adipate or phthalate, trichlorobiphenyl, or diphenyl oxide. The metal salt may or salt the cation of which is Al (III), Ba (II), Cd (II), Ca (II), Ce (III), Cs (I), Co (II), Cu (III), In (III), Fe (II), Fe (III), Pb (II), Mg (II), Mn (II), Mo (V), Nr (II), Na (I), Sr (II), Sb (II), Ti (IV), V (IV), Zn (II), Zr (IV), and the anion of which is acetylacetonate, hexafluoroacetylacetonate, benzoate, naphthenate, salicylate, 2- ethyl hexanoate, abietate, oleate, palmitate, caprylate and laurate. The dye-precursor may be Crystal Violet Lactone or a fluoran derivative. In a typical example, an aqueous coating composition containing para-phenol-formaldehyde resin, zinc acetomylacetonate, kaolin, silica gel, calcium carbonate, styrene-butadiene latex, and cooked starch was applied to paper, and the coated paper was dried to form a transferreceiving sheet.
