PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical and general method for preparing the following compositions on an industrial scale. SOLUTION: The compositions 3-alkylated-5,5',6,6',7,7',8,8'-octahydro-2,2'-binaphthol and 3,3'-dialkylated-5,5',6,6',7,7',8,8'-octahydro-2,2'-binaphthol are disclosed, as well as various processes for making them, all involving the alkylation of 5,5',6,6',7,7',8,8'-octahydro-2,2'-binaphthol. Abstract:
A polyurethaneurea composition comprises a reaction product of at least one diisocyanate compound, a polymeric glycol, a poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycol comprising constituent units derived by copolymerizing tetrahydrofuran and ethylene oxide (EO) wherein the portion of the constituent units derived from ethylene oxide is present in the poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycol from greater than about 37 to about 70 mole percent, at least one diamine chain extender, and at least one chain terminator. The invention further relates to the use of blends of polymeric glycols and poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycols as the soft segment base in spandex compositions. The invention also relates to new polyurethane compositions comprising polymeric glycols and poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycols, and their use in spandex.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a polymeric phosphorus-containing composition which is especially useful for the catalytic hydrocyanidation of unsaturated organic compounds, the isomerization of unsaturated branched nitrile compounds into unsaturated linear nitrile compounds, and the hydroformylation of unsaturated organic compounds. SOLUTION: This polymeric phosphorus-containing composition is derived from the aryl-aryl coupling of a substituted 2,2'-dihydroxyl-1,1'-binaphthalene or a substituted 2,2'-dihydroxyl-1,1'-biphenylene, wherein the polymerization by the aryl-aryl coupling is achieved by the direct oxidative coupling of binaphthalene or biphenylene, a copolymerization with an aromatic comonomer, or a copolymerization with an aldehyde. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an elastic resin excellent in elastic property causing no permanent set in fatigue in a wide temperature range from a low temperature to a high temperature, and to provide an elastic resin molding, clothing, and to obtain an auxiliary material for clothing. SOLUTION: The elastic resin is a polyurethane comprising, as a polyol component, a copolyether polyol of tetrahydrofuran with a 3-alkyltetrahydrofuran, wherein the molecular weight of a soft segment comprising the copolymer portion of a polyurethane-urea polymer chain of the polyurethane is ≤La defined by an equation in the figure, the polyurethane contains ≤1.7 mol organic diisocyanate compound per 1 mol copolyether polyol and the polyurethane has a hard segment comprising a chain extender of at least one diamino compound (A) selected from unbranched chain aliphatic diamino compounds, symmetric cyclic aliphatic diamino compounds and symmetric aromatic diamino compounds, and the chain extender contains no diamino compound other than the diamino compound (A).
