Abstract:
There is disclosed a superior method of providing a desired surface effect in a release coating on a porous sheet-like substrate by applying a coating of an electron beam radiation curable composition or material directly to one side of a base coated paper web, pressing the coated side of the substrate against a replicative surface having the desired surface effect, irradiating the coating with electron beam radiation through the substrate to cure the coating at least sufficiently to permanently adhere it to the substrate and to enable it to be removed with the substrate and with the replicated surface effect in the coating being maintained, the irradiation step taking place after sufficient time has passed to cause the coating to penetrate into the coated paper and to be in continuous intimate contact with the coated paper. Also disclosed is the apparatus for carrying out the method and the resulting product.
Abstract:
A nonwoven fabric is made by first forming a web (12) consisting predominantly of thermoplastic fibers, then pattern embossing the web at an elevated temperature to form autogenous thermal bonds extending through the web, then creping the bonded web by pressing the bonded web against a driven, grooved roll (30) which feeds the web against a retarding member (32). Removal of the web from the retarding member (32) is controlled so that the web is foreshortened in the driven direction and so that said grooves cause a noticeable ridge to be formed in the web. The temperature of the web during the creping step is controlled so that some of the thermoplastic fibers are softened which assists the formation and retention in the web of both the crepe and noticeable ridges 50, preferably of predominantly unbonded fibers. This heating of the web (12) also results in some bonding of fibers in the grooves (52) of the creped web (12) which gives the web (12) a striped appearance. In the creped web, when the autogenous bonds are lineal and generally extend in the cross direction of the web, the creped web can take on a seersucker or corduroy-like appearance depending upon the amount of compaction during the creping step.
Abstract:
Abstract:
There is disclosed a method of forming a decorative heat-and-pressure consolidated laminate by assembling between platens a plurality of superimposed plies of thermosetting resin impregnated sheets and a release medium having a transferable, gluable coating on the side of the release medium placed against an outermost ply, and applying heat and pressure through the platens to consolidate the laminate and to transfer the gluable coating from the release medium to the outermost ply. There is also disclosed a decorative heat-and-pressure consolidated laminate comprising a plurality of superimposed plies of thermosetting resin impregnated sheets having on one of the outermost plies a gluable coating. There is further disclosed a method of gluing a decorative heat-and-pressure consolidated laminate to a reinforcing substrate without the need for sanding the back of the laminate before gluing which comprises providing on one surface of the laminate a gluable coating applying a coating of glue between the gluable coating and the substrate and adhering the laminate to the substrate. The gluable coating comprises a linear copolymer of (A) maleic anhydride or maleic acid or maleic acid salt and (B) ethylene or a vinyl monomer having a side chain or an aliphatic group with up to four carbon atoms or an alkoxy group with up to four carbon atoms.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a decorative window for use with a sanitary product dispenser such as a dispenser for dispensing tissue, paper towels or liquid soap. In a preferred embodiment the window (20,36) is substantially transparent and is mounted to the front cover (14,34) of the dispenser. A decorative strip support (60,108) releasably engages the window (10, 36) from within the dispenser. The decorative strip support member (60,108) preferably includes at least one flexible latch bar (68,116) which is engageable with a latch bolt receptacle (56,106) in the window (20, 36). A decorative strip cut to the appropriate size can be inserted against the inside surface of the window (20,36) with the decorative strip support (56, 106) removed. The decorative strip support can be reinserted against the window such that the latch bar (68,116) engages the latch receptacle (56,106) thus pressing and supporting the decorative strip between the window (20,36) and the decorative strip support (60, 108) and automatically compensating for decorative strips of different thicknesses.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an improvement to twin wire forming wherein an open support structure in the form of an opened or grilled breast roll or a slotted forming shoe supports at least a portion of the outer wire in the forming throat. In such manner, the gap between the open support structure and the forming cylinder can be narrowed such that the gap is less than or equal to the thickness of the jet of stock injected between the wire to form the web. The jet of stock so injected impinges on both the forming cylinder and the open support structure and immediate drainage is provided through the outer wire without substantially varying the tension or radius of the outer wire thereby generally improving uniformity and, in particular, improving basis weight uniformity of the web produced.
Abstract:
Particulate expandable styrene polymers are coated with a distilled acetylated monoglyceride product to reduce the cooling time of articles molded from such expandable styrene polymers. Coating of the expandable particulate styrene polymer is obtained by contacting the polymer with an emulsion of a distilled acetylated monoglyceride and water with a suitable surfactant. The distilled acetylated monoglyceride is a liquid at room temperature and is substantially completely acetylated.
Abstract:
This invention provides an integrated system for recovering fibers from mixed grades of waste paper and simultaneously cleaning (deinking) waste fibers. The system comprises a mild alkaline pulping process with oxygen and hydrogen peroxide followed by rapid decompression of fibers and then by hot washing.
