Abstract:
In one aspect, the present disclosure provides a method including rotating a rotatable surface with an object positioned thereon to a plurality of angular positions. The method also includes capturing, via an x-ray microtomography device at each of the plurality of angular positions, a tomograph of the object. The method also includes summing each tomograph of the object to create a three-dimensional image of the object. The method also includes using an additive manufacturing machine to create a three-dimensional replica of the object using the three-dimensional image of the object.
Abstract:
A hemostatic putty for treatment of a variety of wounds topographies, including but not limited to highly three dimensional wounds, for example gunshot wounds and impalements, is disclosed. The putty is comprised of a matrix polymer weakly crosslinked or not crosslinked such that a viscoelastic matrix is formed. The viscoelastic nature of the putty is tunable by the composition and enables the putty to conform to a variety of wound topographies. Likewise, a hemostatic polymer, for example chitosan or hydrophobically modified chitosan, is included in this matrix to impart hemostatic properties and tissue adhesive on the putty. The hemostatic polymers disclosed prevent microbial infection and are suitable for oxygen transfer required during normal wound metabolism.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a hybrid high voltage aqueous electrolyte battery that combines Ni/Mg2NiH4 and Mg-ion rechargeable battery chemistries. The hybrid aqueous electrolyte battery can be used for plug-in hybrid electrical vehicles and electric vehicles.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a modular base link for use in a counterbalancing arm. The base link includes two base plates and four connection points. Two stabilizing members are connected to and extend between the base plates. Two resilient members, one of which is hingeably connected to and in communication with the two connection points, the other resilient member is hingeably connected to and in communication with the other connection points. The connection points are eccentrically and orthogonally disposed relative to each other. The resilient members are sufficiently resilient to permit movement of the base plates relative to each other so as to counterbalance the arm when a load is applied to either base plate.
Abstract:
A bone fixation device made of polysaccharide particles or microspheres fused into a solid structure is provided herein. The bone fixation device may be in the form of an orthopedic screw, orthopedic pin, or orthopedic plate. Methods of making the bone fixation devices described herein are provided as are methods of treating patients in need of bone repair or replacement by implanting a bone fixation device described herein in the patient at a site of bone damage, ligament damage, or bone deformity.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a system and method for generating a motion-corrected 2D image of a target. The method comprises acquiring a 3D static image of the target before an interventional procedure. During the procedure, a number of 2D real time images of the target are acquired and displayed. A slice of the 3D static image is acquired and registered with one 2D real time image and then the location of the 3D static image is corrected to be in synchrony with body motion. The motion corrected 2D image of the target is then displayed.
Abstract:
A mechanical tracking system comprises a first set of linkage arms, a second set of linkage arms, a pair of shafts connected at a first end to one arm of the first set of linkage antis and at a second end to one arm of said second set of the linkage arms, wherein each arm of the second set of linkage arms is oriented out of phase with a respective arm of the first set of linkage arms, an attachment shaft positioned adjacent to the first set of linkage arms to accommodate a tool, and a sensor arrangement configured to sense the orientation and position of the attachment shaft.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to molecules which function as selective modulators of the Ras-homologous (Rho) family of small GTPases, in particular, Cdc42 GTPase and their use to treat diseases, for example cancers, including metastatic cancer, genetic and acquired diseases where activation of Cdc42 GTPase plays a pivotal role, such as neurodegenerative diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, diabetes type I, autosomal polycystic kidney disease, cystic kidney disease, precystic kidney disease, microbial infections, including Chlamydia infections, E. coli infections, H. pylori infections and its secondary effects including gastric ulcers, Coxiella Brunetti (Q-fever) infections and Streptococcus pneumonia infections, fungal infections including Paracoccidiodes brasiliensis and Candida albicans and their secondary effects including lung edema. Additionally, compounds according to the present invention may be used to inhibit rejection in transplant patients (pursuant to transplantation), to promote immunosuppression, anti-inflammatory response and to mobilize stem cell (migration) in patients in need, among others.
Abstract:
A method and devices are described, in which a transformable fiber at a first crystal structure is shaped from its pre-determined configuration into a new shaped configuration. The new shaped configuration of the transformable fiber is inserted into a cavity of a heat and fire protective item. The new shaped configuration of the transformable fiber is heated to above its transformation temperature to a second crystal structure. The heating transforms the new shaped configuration to its pre-determined configuration, wherein the pre-determined configuration forms an air pocket within the heat and fire protective item. The transformable fiber is cooled below its transformation temperature to revert the transformable fiber back to the new shaped configuration at the first crystal structure.
