    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide analytical methods using RNA probes for the detection or analysis of nucleic acid sequences. SOLUTION: RNA probes 3 are contacted with a sample 1 suspected of containing the nucleic acid sequence and if they form duplexes, they are hydrolysed. This may be done, for example during an amplification reaction. AMP generated as a result of the hydrolysis is converted to ATP. The ATP may then be detected by using bioluminescent reagents. RNA hydrolysed probes 2 are usable as much versatile means for producing signals indicating existence of very specific nucleic acid sequences in the sample. The sensitivity of the assay using such a probe combinedly with the bioluminescent detection system is high and the signals can be produced quickly. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
