    Abstract: A circuit for demodulating a frequency modulated input signal comprises filter means (12), and detector means (16) for producing a demodulated output signal therefrom, tuning means (18, 20) which are operable to introduce a test signal into the demodulator circuit in the absence of an incoming input signal, and to vary the frequency response characteristics of at least one of the filter means and detector means in response to the test signal. The circuit may be part of an analog or digital radio receiver. The received signal may be TDMA. The filter 12 may be tuned by maximising its output by an associated loop including a regulator (fig. 3 not shown).

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangement in an ad-hoc network for synchronizing a multiple of radio transceiver arrangements with different characteristics that make use of a common air interface. Each transceiver arrangement comprises at least two transceivers which mutually communicate via a radio transmission link. All transceivers synchronize to a common synchronization signal comprising two staggered beacon pulse series signals (TX1, TX2) which have the same repetition rate. The transceivers synchronize their internal timers which control the signal transmission from the transceivers, to the strongest one of the two beacon pulse series signals (TX1, TX2) by listening during one of the corresponding sets of time windows (RX1, RX2). Between the reception of two beacon pulses, each transceiver transmits beacon pulses itself, thus contributing to the generation of the other beacon pulse series signal, on which other transceivers can lock.

In the apparatus and method, a plurality of units, which each include a passive frequency-selective circuit and an active amplifier, are cascaded and the required isolation between the passive frequency-selective circuits is maintained by the active amplifier acting as a buffer. As a result, interaction and loading is prevented between the passive frequency-selective circuits so that the net gain in the stability of the oscillator is achieved because the Q-value of the oscillator is increased.

    Abstract: The private radio network has base stations and mobile units in a cellular arrangement and using GSM style protocols. All of the base stations in the private network are roughly synchronised up to the multiple frame level. They transmit their beacons during the ideal frames of a connection. The mobile units measure the quality of these signals and pass this data to their base station. The base station uses the data to decide on handover timing. The base stations are linked, and the current base station advises the new base station of the frame number being used by the mobile. The new station may return a new frame number that is passed to the mobile. The transfer occurs in a single multiple frame.
