Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may monitor a neighbor cell and report the result to a serving base station. Based on the report, the serving base station may identify an estimated discovery reference signal (DRS) transmission window of the neighbor cell. In some cases, the UE may estimate and report parameters of the neighbor DRS transmission window, and in other cases, the UE may make a measurement report and the base station may infer DRS transmission window parameters. The base station may then provide the UE with a DRS measurement timing configuration (DMTC) based on the estimated parameters of the neighbor cell so that the UE may monitor the neighbor cell and the serving cell in an efficient manner. For example, the UE may conserve battery life by refraining from monitoring DRS during periods when a DRS transmission is not likely.

Abstract: There may be a gap between the time a beam pair link (BPL) impacted by a beam failure (BF) event is deactivated and the time a replacement BPL is activated and becomes fully functional at a UE. The gap may be called a blackout period. A base station may not know the blackout period and may continue transmitting to the UE on the impacted BPL during the blackout period. This may result in a transmission failure. Disclosed herein are apparatus and methods for determining a blackout period associated with a beam failure (BF) event and communicating a blackout indication to a base station, the blackout indication including the blackout period.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a slot structure (e.g., the arrangement of channels and pilot signals within a slot) that can relax the processing timeline for a wireless communication device. For example, in the first or initial symbol of a slot, control information may be frequency division multiplexed (FDM) with a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) or with user data. In some cases, delayed-processing data may be sampled, and the samples may be buffered at the receiving device, for processing later, after control information needed to process the data has been received and processed. Further aspects provide for payload pre-tapering. That is, when a device delays the processing of data bits, this can cause a processing bottleneck after that buffering delay. By virtue of various pre-tapering techniques described herein, the processing load needed to process the delayed-processing data can be reduced. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for efficiently determining when to transmit a beam report indicating a new beam for communicating with a base station after a current beam used for communications with the base station fails. In one example, after detecting beam failure, a user equipment (UE) may compare a quality of each candidate beam available for communicating with a base station to a beam identification threshold, and the UE may perform beam reporting based on the comparisons (e.g., refrain from transmitting a beam report if the quality of each of the candidate beams is lower than the beam identification threshold). In another example, after detecting beam failure, a UE may compare a quality of each candidate beam available for communicating with a base station to a beam detection threshold, and the UE may perform beam reporting based on the comparisons.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described to enable base station and a user equipment (UE) to mitigate interference when using full-duplex communications. For example, a base station communicating with a UE via full-duplex communications may indicate for the UE to align the time of its uplink transmissions with the time the UE receives downlink transmissions. Additionally or alternatively, the base station may indicate a timing alignment window for the UE, where the window may consist of an allowed time period the UE may use to select a time to begin uplink transmissions. In some examples, the base station may select a cyclic prefix for full-duplex communications, where the cyclic prefix may be longer than a cyclic prefix used for other communications. Further, the base station may select uplink frequency and downlink frequency bands separated by a defined guard band for full-duplex communications.
