    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve patterning accuracy and to increase the area and density of the color filters by forming an inorg. porous layer contg. silica or alumina on a transparent substrate and executing patterning of respective colors by repeating the specific stages. CONSTITUTION:The inorg. porous layer 2 contg. at least the silica or alumina is formed on the transparent substrate 1 and a photosensitive resist 3 is coated on the inorg. porous layer 2. The resist layer 3 is then exposed through a colored photomask 4 having the prescribed pattern. The resist layer is then developed to open windows of the prescribed pattern. A dye is diffused through the windowed resist layer 3 into the inorg. porous layer 2 and the resist layer 3 is removed. The patterning of the respective colors is executed by repeating the various stages mentioned above, by which the pattern accuracy of the sol-gel method color filters having excellent flatness is improved and the increase of the area and density is enabled.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the valency of an added metal when a glass body is synthesized by a sol-gel process by carrying out vitrification by heating in an atmosphere of a nonoxidizing gas under reduced pressure. CONSTITUTION:Sol prepd. with alkyl silicate, fine silica particles and a compd. contg. a metallic element as starting materials is converted into gel and this gel is dried. The resulting dry gel is heated at >=300 deg.C in an atmosphere of an inert gas such as He, Ar or N2, hydrogen or a reducing gas such as CO or H2S under reduced pressure. By the heating, the pores in the dry gel are sealed to obtain a glass body.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a homogeneous, large-sized quartz glass free from bubbles, by preparing a glass precursor e.g. by adjusting the pH of a sol produced by dispersing fine silica particles in a hydrolyzed liquid of an alkyl silicate and heating the obtained glass precursor at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:Fine silica particles are dispersed in a solution produced by hydrolyzing an alkyl silicate with an acidic catalyst. A compound containing a metal element (e.g. cesium chloride) is added to the sol and the obtained mixture is gelatinized by adjusting the pH to 3-6. The gel is dried and the resultant dry gel is heated to form an open-cell structure. The obtained glass or glass precursor is heated at 1,500-2,200 deg.C and annealed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To facilitate the production of a quartz laser glass containing a large amount of trivalent cerium ion by forming a gel from alkyl silicate, silica fine particles and cerium dopant, as major components, by the sol-gel method and forming glass from the gel with heat under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:A starting material containing, at least, an alkyl silicate such as ethyl silicate, silica fine particles and a dopant containing cerium (such as cerous chloride is subjected to the sol-gel process to form a dry gel. The dry gel is heated under reduced pressure, or in an inert gas atmosphere such as He, Ar or N2, in a hydrogen atmosphere or in a reductive gas atmosphere such as CO or H2S to form a glass. This process enables the production of a laser glass of high output and efficiency which is applicable to a wave-length variable laser or a slug laser for high output.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled mass material useful for solid leather, etc., by low-temperature sintering, by adding a metal or a metallic compound to raw materials of alkyl silicate, silica fine powder, an organic substance, etc., and carrying out synthetic reaction by sol-gel method. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid of an alkyl silicate (e.g. ethyl silicate) is mixed with silica fine particles to give sol, which is adjusted with ammonia water to proper pH and gelatinized. Then the gel is dried and heated to about 500 deg.C to give a porous material. Then the porous material is immersed in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal such as Na, K, Ca, etc., and the metal, etc., is diffused into the interior of the porous gel. Then the porous material is dried and heated to about 800 deg.C to give silica-based mass material containing organic substances.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To mass-produce a quartz glass having excellent optical property by heating a dry gel obtained from an alkyl-silicate as raw material. CONSTITUTION:The dry gel, which is produced from the alkyl-silicate as the raw material by the sol-gel method, is allowed to desorb the physically adsorbed water by heating in atmosphere at >=300 deg.C and at the same time a residual carbon compd. is removed in the form of CO2. Next, the dry gel is set in a vacuum furnace, and is vetrified by heating at 700-1,450 deg.C in decompression atmosphere, and then is heated and maintained at 1,500-2,200 deg.C for a specified time. Thereby the inclusion or flaw is eliminated and the quartz glass having optically high purity is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To easily produce a thick-walled glass tube by rotating a vessel charged with a pH-controlled sol with the axis of a cylinder as the center, and forming a wet gel having specified thickness. CONSTITUTION:Hydrochloric acid is added to ethyl silicate and strongly agitated, the obtained colorless, transparent, and homogeneous soln. is added with ultra-fine silica powder, and the pH is regulated to obtain a sol. The sol is charged into a vessel 1, a lid 2 is put on, the vessel is mounted on a planar rotary device 3 and rotated with the axis of the cylinder as the center, hence the sol is gelated, and a wet gel having >=2cm thickness is obtained. Then the wet gel is dried and sintered. Consequently, the wet gel is never cracked during aging the drying, and a glass tube having >=1cm thickness is obtained after sintering.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the frothing due to the decomposition and sublimation of a salt by mixing the solns. obtained by the hydrolysis of an alkyl silicate with a basic reagent and an acidic reagent to obtain a dry gel which is heated and kept under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:The alkyl silicate is hydrolyzed with a basic reagent (e.g., ammonia) to form the first soln. contg. fine silica particles, and the alkyl silicate is hydrolyzed with an acidic reagent (e.g., hydrochloric acid) to form the second colorless transparent soln. Both solns. are mixed in a specified ratio to form a highly homogeneous sol which is dried to obtain a dry gel. The dry gel is kept at 200-800 deg.C for >=5hr while passing a carrier gas contg. oxygen, then kept at about 800-1,200 deg.C while passing gaseous helium to vitrify the gel, and then kept at 1,500-2,000 deg.C for specified hours to produce the quartz glass. Consequently, the high-optical quality quartz glass contg. no impurities and bubbles is obtained.
