Abstract:
A steel cord (114) comprises strength elements (100, 132) and having a length, a longitudinal central axis (112) and a cord pitch. At least one of the elements (100) has a projection on a plane YZ perpendicular to the longitudinal central axis (112). This projection takes the form of a curve with a radius of curvature which alternates between a maximum and a minimum. The curve further has a center of curvature. The radius of curvature and the center of curvature lie inside the curve so that a convex curve is obtained. The cord (114) is further characterized by one or both of following features: (i) the distance between two minimum radii of curvature of said curve measured along the longitudinal central axis (112) is different from half the cord pitch; or (ii) if all of said elements (100) provide a convex curve, at least one of said convex curves substantially differs from another convex curve.

The rubber articles containing the steel cord have an improved resistance to corrosion propagation and a high strength. A pneumatic tire is reinforced with the above-mentioned steel cord and contains a cross belt layer where(i) an angle .theta. formed by a reinforcing steel cord and the equatorial plane of the tire is:12.degree..ltoreq..theta..ltoreq.30.degree.(ii) a gap between adjacent two steel cords in the same layer, I, is:0.5 mm.ltoreq.I.ltoreq.2.0 mm(iii) a gauge of the gum between two facing cords, G, is:0.35 mm.ltoreq.G.ltoreq.2.0 mmThe pneumatic tire exhibits suppression of development of crack at the belt end in addition to the advantages as above.

Abstract:
A pneumatic tire which is provided radially outside a carcass (6) with a belt (9) made of cords (10) embedded in topping rubber, each of the belt cords comprises four steel monofilaments (12A and 12B) including one or two waved steel monofilaments (12A) and unwaved steel monofilaments (12B), the four steel monofilaments having the same diameters are compactly twisted together so as to make alternate contact portions and non-contact portions (P) with a gap (T) between at least one waved steel monofilament and the adjacent steel monofilaments, and the four steel monofilaments have the same diameter (d) of 0.2 to 0.35 mm.
Abstract:
A tire steel cord formed of more than three strands twisted together, at least one of the strands being marked so as to formed therein with zig-zagging marked parts which form gaps between strands, rubber accordingly immersing the steel cord into its center part through the thus formed gaps so as to fill in a cavity in the center part of the steel cord.
Abstract:
A reinforcing cord for elastomeric products is produced by feeding a plurality of single metal wires of the same diameter into a set of successively arranged stranding points. At least two wires are fed into the first stranding point and through the subsequent stranding points. Additional wires are fed into the respective subsequent stranding points. The quantity of wires fed to the stranding points is determined by the number of valleys which are present in the peripheral contour of the processed strand at this particular stranding point. In this manner each additional wire is brought in contact with at least two preceding wires in the processed strand.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire capable of reducing the cord fatigue and enhancing the durability by reducing the initial elongation, and suppressing the dispersion thereof. SOLUTION: In the pneumatic tire, a tire component consisting of plies covering cord arrays with metallic cords arranged parallel to each other with a tread rubber is used. The metallic cords are formed by stranding a plurality of metal filaments. In the metallic cords taken out of the pneumatic tire, the initial elongation E which is the difference (E1-E2) between the elongation E1 under the load of 49N and the elongation E2 under the load of 2.5N is set in a range of 0.05-0.20%, and the initial elongation E is the mean value for the metallic cords taken out of the positions at which the arranged cords in the entire circumference of the tire are equally divided into n-sections (n=20), including the metallic cord group in which the standard deviation σ obtained by the formula σ=√(Σ(Ei-Em) 2 /n), where Ei is the i-th initial elongation from the reference position (i=1), and Em is the mean value of the initial elongation of n pieces of metallic cords. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire for improving maneuvering stability, comfortableness, and durability in a well-balanced state while reducing weight. SOLUTION: In this pneumatic radial tire, belt ply for forming a belt 2 wound on a crown part of a carcass 1 of a radial structure is formed by putting covering rubber 10 on a wire layer 9 formed by arranging a longitudinal wave wire 7 having an oval cross section, and patterned in a waveform bending in the minor axis direction, and a transverse wave wire 8 patterned in a waveform bending in the major axis direction.
