Abstract:
A method is disclosed that enables the screening of unwanted telephone calls, such as voice or video calls, for one or more called parties. In accordance with the illustrative embodiment of the present invention, an anti-SPAM system receives signaling information for one or more telephone calls made to one or more called parties by a calling party. Although the calling party can be a human caller, in a SPAM-over-Internet-Telephony context the calling party can alternatively be a server or other network element that originates SPAM voice calls for advertising purposes; both possibilities are accounted for in the illustrative embodiment. The anti-SPAM system then observes the behavior of the called party or parties that is exhibited in response to receiving the telephone calls. Based on the observed behavior, the anti-SPAM system then updates one or more rules for handling future telephone calls made to the protected called parties.
Abstract:
A system for automatically selecting an outgoing message for an incoming call. In response to receiving an incoming call, a calling party is identified. The identified calling party is compared against call log data to determine that the identified calling party has previously heard a first outgoing message. In response to determining that the identified calling party has not previously heard the first outgoing message, the first outgoing message is played as a selected outgoing message for the incoming call. In response to determining that the identified calling party has previously heard the first outgoing message, a second outgoing message is played as the selected outgoing message for the incoming call. Then, the call log data is updated to identify the selected outgoing message played for the incoming call.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an interface (10, 40) between a master device (30) and a slave device (20). The interface includes a bit serial bidirectional signal line (10A) for conveying commands and associated data from the master device to the slave device, and for conveying a reset signal, an interrupt signal, and a learning sequence signal for specifying a duration of a bit time for data transferred from the slave device to the master device. The bit serial bidirectional signal line further indicates an accessory device connected/disconnected state to the master device.
Abstract:
A system includes a microprocessor and first and second memories. The microprocessor is programmed to receive a text stream of words and to compare the words received with key words stored in the first memory. The second memory stores data representing musical sounds with one or more of the sounds being associated with a key word stored in the first memory. If there is a match between a word received by the microprocessor and a key word stored in the first memory, an electrical signal representing the corresponding sound stored in the second memory is provided to the microprocessor which then sends same to a speaker or to a display device such as a computer monitor. In one embodiment the data representing the received words is converted into an analog electrical speech signal which is sent to the speaker. The text stream can be generated by a person speaking or from a computer disk which contains words in digital format. If the text stream is generated by a person, then a microphone receives the voice signal and converts same into an electrical signal which is converted from analog to digital form by an analog-to-digital converter which has an output connected to an input of the microprocessor.
