Abstract: CARD COUNTER AND METHOD OF USING SAME A card counter (10) prints card inventory information locally and communicates with a remote computer (43) for permanent storage and retrieval of inventory information. A microprocessor controller detects a counting error in response to the actual count failing to match a preset count, failing to match a precount information machine read from a machine readable precount label (130) attached to the cards (18), in the event of a phase error from a pair of parallel scanning card sensor circuits (58, 59) or if the final counts of the two card sensor circuits (58, 59) do not match. In the event of detection of a counting error, an error indication is provided and entry of the count into an accumulator memory is inhibited. The preset number is entered into memory by selectively entering an actual count into the preset memory. A pair of separate accumulators are provided for concurrently accumulating totals of two different groups of cards (18). The card sensor circuits (58, 59) are digitally filtered by the microprocessor (44) which also automatically performs self diagnostics to reduce counting errors due to malfunction. Malfunction of a scan drive motor (61) 18 reduced through provision of a slip clutch (Figs. 10A and 10B). Alphanumeric display units are both electrically connected to the control circult (Fig. 2) and releasibly, mechanically attached to a printed circuit board (112) of said control circuit (Fig. 2) by means of a multiline electrical connector (120) attached to the edge of the printed circuit board (112).

Abstract: A credit card counter (40) with a self-adjusting card loading apparatus (42) having a card elevator plate (46) for elevating a rack of cards (14) to a position with the top edges (19) aligned with a sensor location (26) for optimal sensing. A spring (56) biases a pivot plate (52) to rotate in a direction to move the card elevator (46) until the top edges (18) abut a card guide member (50) aligned with the sensor location (26) which is located above the cards (14A) and out of path of debris carried by the rack of cards (14). The connection to the elevator plate (46) is by means of a pivot axle (72) and the sides of a slot (44A) in a base plate (44) have a snug fit with the sides of the elevator plate (46), so that relative movement is substantially translational. The elevator plate (44) is lowered sufficiently to allow the edges (18) under the guide member (50) and then permitted to rise to the correct position depending upon the height of the cards (14A).

Abstract: Single-sheet, multi-panel carriers for receiving and retaining credit cards during credit card issue and mailing procedures. Cards may be inserted in the carriers manually or by machine. Plural carrier forms are preferably provided in a continuous fan-folded web, and individual carriers are separable therefrom at perforations between subsequent and/or adjacent carriers. The carriers have special slits or slots for retaining one to four cards singly, or double that in a piggy-back manner, in vertical or horizontal configurations. Carriers also have a plurality of panels which assist in retaining the cards by wedge trapping during manual or machine issue processing (inserting, collating, verification and stuffing) and mailing operations. Carriers also carry verification and/or identification information thereon relating to the account, e.g., name, number of cards, account(s) number(s), credit limit, address, debit usage criteria, and the like, in one or more forms which may be read visually, electro-optically, mechanically, optically, electromechanically, magnetically and/or electronically. Carriers are specially adapted for production by sheet-fed glued, or roll-to-fold, high-speed web printing procedures. Imprinting of verification and/or identification indicia may be done by any impact or non-impact procedures, e.g., by drum, line, or computer-controlled, non-impact, spray-type printers.

Abstract: A waste compactor comprising a longitudinally extending compaction chamber, having a discharge opening at its leading end and a feed opening at its trailing end. A chute communicating with the feed opening is provided by which delivery of refuse may be made to the chamber. A horizontally moveable ram is mounted to the rear of the trailing end of the chamber and is reciprocably moveable from a first position forward of the feed opening to a second retracted position to the rear of the feedopening, thereby to successively move the refuse toward the discharge opening. At least a portion of the compression chamber located between the feed and discharge openings is provided with a plurality of elongated flutes extending substantially along the path of movement of the refuse and radially extending through the inner surface of the chamber toward the center thereof.

Abstract: 1356559 Apparatus for compacting refuse &c INTERNATIONAL DYNETICS CORP 1 March 1973 [2 March 1972] 10040/73 Heading B8C Apparatus, for controlling the operation of a compactor formed of a longitudinal compression chamber 10 having an inlet 24 for delivery of material, e.g. refuse, to be compacted, a compression zone 26, and an hydraulic ram 18, adapted to move against the material to compact the latter in the zone 24, comprises means 16 for actuating the ram 18 to move the material into the compaction zone, a timer T for limiting the movement of the ram 18 to a first predetermined interval means for sensing the pressure of the material on the ram 18, and means S, responsive to the sensing of a predetermined level of said pressure, for determining a second predetermined time interval for the movement of the ram less than the first predetermined interval, and means for arresting the movement of the ram 18 within the first predetermined interval and on expiration of said second time interval. When a photo-eye 32, in a feed hopper 30 senses refuse in the inlet section 24 a valve VR, in a flow line 38, is opened to cause fluid to flow from a pump P, driven by a motor M, to an hydraulic cylinder 22 to retract the ram 18 from a forward position, where it closes the inlet 24, to its trailing end position whereat the rise in pressure in the line 38 closes a switch HPS1 so that the valve VR is shut and a valve VF, in a flow line 38, is opened. The ram 18 then moves forward, a timer TM, previously set to said first predetermined interval, simultaneously being switched on. If, during its forward stroke, the pressure of the refuse on the ram 18 does not reach said predetermined level of pressure then, at the end of the time period set by the timer TM, the hydraulic system is switched off the ram 18 stopping at the forward end of its refusecompacting stroke. In order to regulate the density, volume, and weight of the compacted refuse when the pressure in the line 36 rises to the predetermined level, due to the reaction of the ram 18 pushing refuse against a door 28, a switch HPS2 is actuated to operate a time delay relay T3 which, after the elapse of said second predetermined time interval sufficient to provide the desired compaction of refuse, causes the motor M to be stopped and a lamp A to be illuminated to indicate the completion of a compacted load, the switch HPS2 being bridged, at the same time, to ensure the operation of the relay T3. In order to set the predetermined pressure on the switch HPS2 a relief valve 40R is set to blow at a predetermined level above that of the high pressure which actuates the switch HPS2. The relief valve 40R is preferably set so that its pressure setting is reached just an instant before the period of the time delay T3 expires. The interval of the time delay relay T3 must fall within the total predetermined period set by the timer T otherwise the ram stops when only a partial load has been made. When the refuse is fully compressed the door 28 is opened, and a manual switch S2 is depressed, so that the ram 18 is advanced to eject the load.
