Abstract:
An Image to be printed on shrink film (10) for packaging an object (18) is predistorted (22b) before printing so that the printed image will return to substantially its original form (22b') when the part of the film (10) beering the image is shrunk against a predetermined part of the object (18). The image is subdivided and the subdivisions are enlarged to provide the desired predistorted image (22b).
Abstract:
Disclosed are process and apparatus for use in the direct casting of metal strip (14) from molten metal deposited on a moving chill surface (12) from a tundish (10) having a floor (30), opposed upwardly extending sidewalls (32, 34), an end wall (36), an open outlet opposite the end wall with the open outlet extending substantially the full width of the tundish between the sidewalls, and an inlet (44) for providing a flow of molten metal (20) into the tundish from a source of molten metal (42). Flow diverters (56, 58) within the tundish divide the flow of molten metal into a plurality of separate streams and divert one of the streams in the direction of each sidewall and for recombining the diverted streams into a composite stream flowing toward the outlet. Flow diffusers (72, 74, 76) diffuse the molten metal flowing through the tundish to provide molten metal of substantially uniform temperature across the width of the tundish at the outlet.
Abstract:
A resealable closure device (10) for use on metallic cans includes a metallic end wall (12) having an opening (24) surrounded by an upwardly extending and outwardly flaring beaded flange (22). The flexible closure element (14) includes a central panel (34), a lever portion (36) and a connecting portion (38) connecting the lever portion to the central panel; the closure device may be molded in an inverted umbrella position which is capable of being inverted to engage the flange of the opening; a skirt portion (48) is provided on the interior side of the central panel of the flexible closure element to provide a degree of resistance to removal of the closure device from the opening by user.
Abstract:
An apparatus (10) and method for measuring the length and/or width of a piece of material, such as hot aluminum plate is described. The apparatus has a measuring range defined by a plurality of cameras (16,18,20,22). A video screen (52) is selectively connectable to the cameras to depict their viewing ranges. The apparatus, after an operator has aligned an indicator (80) with a depicted edge of material, automatically calculates the distance of the depicted edge from a fixed point (34), such as the centerline of a shear (36).
Abstract:
An apparatus for sampling can ends from a can end forming line includes first (50) and second (13,15) chute means and means (42) for deflecting can ends between the chute means. An optional door means (60) may be provided as a portion of one ofthe chute means to further deflect certain ends from the system.
