    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a new substituted benzanilide or related benzylamide having excellent harbicidal activity, thus useful as a herbicide. CONSTITUTION: This new benzanilide is a compound of formula I [X to X are each H, a halogen or alkyl; (n) is 0 or 1; Z is H, a halogen or phenoxy (substituted with amino, an alkyl, haloalkyl, alkylthio, etc.); when A is CH and at least one of Y and Y is not H, W is H; when A is N, W is H or a halogen and Y and Y are each H], e.g. 2-(3-trifluoromethylphenoxy)-5- fluoroanilide. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II (M is an eliminable group and T is a group of formula III, or M is a group of formula IV and T is an eliminate group) with a compound of the formula Q-L (M is an eliminable group, T is a group of formula III, Q is a group of formula IV and L is H, or M is a group of formula IV, T is an eliminable group, Q is a group of formula III and L is H or a monovalent cation) in the presence of, according as necessary, an appropriate base.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing an elastomeric fiber useful for producing a pair of stockings, etc. CONSTITUTION: This bicomponent elastomeric fiber is obtained by coextrusion molding of an elastomer consisting of (a) 100 pts.wt. functionalized and selectively hydrogenated block copolymer comprising (i) at least 2 blocks consisting of predominantly polymerized monovinyl aromatic monomer units, (ii) at least one block consisting of predominantly, before its hydrogenation, polymerized conjugated diolefin monomer units and (iii) 2-20 acid or anhydride groups on average per 1 molecule of the polymer, and (b) 30-300 pts.wt. nylon.
