Abstract:
A method and apparatus for displaying and accessing contacts in a contact list on a display device. In some embodiments, the method includes displaying a list of contacts on the display device, wherein the list of contacts is separated into groups of contacts by contact group separators based on at least one configuration setting, generating a quick access index including a plurality of selectable index items each associated with a group of contacts, wherein the selectable index items are only generated for the groups of contacts that include at least one contact, and displaying the quick access index over at least a portion of the list of contacts.
Abstract:
When multiple users of an IP telephony system are communicating with the IP telephony system via the same data network interface device, a check is made to determine if all users are obtaining sufficiently high communications speed to support high quality communications. If not, the data traffic for one or more users may be slowed to allow data traffic to one or more other users to be increased, so that all users will be able to maintain high quality communications.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing support for an Internet-based service. One embodiment of the method comprises gathering user information related to one or more of user identification, user hardware, user software, or browsing session information, and displaying agent contact information and a personal identification number (PIN), where the PIN is associated with the user information to enable an agent to access the user information to support a user's interaction with the agent. The apparatus comprises a user computer for executing an applet for gathering user information related to one or more of user identification, user hardware, user software, or browsing session information. A web server for coupling agent contact information and a personal identification number (PIN) to the user computer, where the PIN is associated with the user information to enable an agent to access the user information to support a user's interaction with the agent. The user computer displays the agent contact information and the PIN.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for terminating telephony communications to a mobile telephony device that is roaming outside of its native service area make use of a mobile roaming termination service. The mobile roaming termination service causes the native mobile telephony service provider that provides service to the mobile telephony device to forward incoming telephony communications directed the native telephone number of the mobile telephony device to a forwarding access number. The mobile roaming termination service receives telephony communications directed to the forwarding access number, and then terminates the telephony communication to the mobile telephony device via any one of multiple different methods. The mobile telephony service provider can be instructed to implement and cancel call forwarding instructions by dialing a special character string on the mobile telephony device.
Abstract:
A system for establishing Internet protocol based telephony communications between a calling telephony device and a called telephony device includes multiple logical elements that help to setup and carry the telephony communication. Multiple ones of the logical elements create call detail records that contain data about the telephony communication. Information contained in the call detail records is used to determine which call detail records relate to the same telephony communication. Once the call detail records relating to the same telephony communication are identified, a global identification number can be written into each of the call detail records to tie them together, or information drawn from the multiple call detail records can be used to create a single consolidated call detail record.
Abstract:
When a mobile telephony device is conducting a voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) telephone call via a data network, and the mobile telephone device transitions from a first wireless data connection to a second wireless data connection, signaling between the mobile telephone device and a media relay inform the media relay how to address data packets bearing the media of the call after the transition has occurred. In some embodiments, the mobile telephone device establishes multiple simultaneous wireless data connections, and the mobile telephony device switches the media of the call between the wireless data connections depending on the quality of the wireless data connections.
Abstract:
A method of dynamic server assignment in a VoIP network includes detecting a telecommunication device on the VoIP network and querying a geo-location server for geographic information related to the telecommunication device's location and receiving the geographic information. Based on the geographic information a server assignment is determined. A configuration file for the telecommunication device including the server assignment and location is created and the configuration is provided to the telecommunication device over the network. The configuration file may also include features related to local customs or practice.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of selecting a media path for data packets bearing the media of a telephone call to traverse during a voice over Internet protocol telephone call include testing the call quality of multiple potential media paths immediately before a call is setup. The potential media path with the highest call quality is used as the initial media path for the call. If the call quality of the media path currently in use declines below a threshold value during a call, potential alternate media paths are identified and tested for call quality. If one of the alternate media paths has better call quality than the media path presently in use, the call is switched to the alternate media path with the highest call quality.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and system for discovering devices on a local area network. The method comprises sending a DNS request from a host networking element, receiving the DNS request at one or more devices, and responding to the host networking element with one or more DNS responses. The DNS request comprises one or more particular domain names. The one or more DNS responses comprise local network address information for the one or more VoIP devices. The apparatus comprises means for filtering a set of network traffic for a DNS request, means for responding to a DNS request with a local network address, and means for forwarding the DNS request to another device. The system comprises a computer for generating a DNS request for a particular domain, and one or more VoIP devices for receiving the DNS request and sending a DNS response to the computer with a local network address for the VoIP device.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for managing a media file having media recorded for a user in a communication system. A first message is sent to the user containing text converted from a portion of speech content of the media. A second message is received from the user containing an instruction from the user indicating an operation to be performed on the media file. The operation is performed on the media file in response to the user's instruction in the second message.
