Abstract:
A change in user interest level of a user application of a client device in communication with a network infrastructure at a first quality of service level is assessed (306). In response, the quality of service associated with the user application is dynamically changed (308) to a second quality of service level, while keeping the user application active, based, at least in part, on the change in user interest level of the user application.
Abstract:
A method for adaptive power control in a mobile communication system (100) determines (120) whether an RF loading factor (110) is greater than a threshold value. If the RF loading factor is above the threshold value, the method reduces call quality (140). Next, a determination is made whether the RF loading factor is below a second threshold value (150). If the RF loading factor is below the second threshold value, the call quality of the mobile communication system is increased (160).
Abstract:
A method (300) and communication device (106) capable of streamlining call setups to a wireless mobile unit (102) may include a transceiver (520) and a controller (502). In various embodiments of the invention, the controller detects (302) a modified request for a communication resource, optionally monitors (304) a communication system loading parameter, and sends (406 or 408) an assignment for a larger than anticipated allocation of the communication resource upon detecting the modified request or when the system loading parameter falls below a predetermined threshold. The controller may also receive (410) via the larger than anticipated allocation of the communication resource both an anticipated initial data transmission and an initial user data transmission in a first data transmission from the mobile wireless unit.
Abstract:
At least one condition concerning a first user (102) within a communication network is obtained. Presence information of a second user (114) within the communication network is determined based upon the at least one condition of the first user (102). The presence information of the second user is then projected to the first user (102).
Abstract:
A communication system (100) provides for an expedited response to an invitation to a Push-to-Talk (PTT) communication session from a terminating side (140, 150, 152) of the communication system when a target mobile station (MS) (132) is not currently available to participate in a PTT communication session by responding to a PTT session invitation prior to an expiration of a second, Paging timer and after a predetermined number of expirations of a first, Tbsreq9 timer or after a predetermined number of unsuccessful requests to page the target MS. In another embodiment of the invention, the communication system may further consider the contents of a downlink buffer (148) of a terminating side Packet Control Function (146) in determining whether and when to respond to an invitation to a PTT communication session, utilizing a third, TpagingBackoff timer in determining when to request a page of a non-responsive target MS.
Abstract:
Various embodiments are described which can provide reduced PTT call setup times and a greater degree of service integration for PTT users. A PTT originator's MSC (171) notifies (205) the PTT server of a PTT session request before the originator (101) has the channel and data connection resources to send a PTT session request itself. This enables the PTT server (161) to trigger (207) the establishment of channel and data connection resources for the PTT target (102) before the originator is able to trigger the same by sending a PTT session request itself. Also, the target's MSC (172) notifies (221) the PTT server after the target responds to a page for the session, enabling the PTT server to indicate PTT session acceptance (223) on behalf of the target before the target has the channel and data connection resources to respond to a PTT session request.
Abstract:
A communication device (202) converts a bit stream to multiple symbols and provides encryption at a physical layer by shifting a phase of each symbol of the multiple symbols to produce multiple encrypted symbols. Each encrypted symbol of the multiple encrypted symbols is modulated with an orthogonal (214) subcarrier to produce at least one modulated subcarrier and the at least one modulated subcarrier is then transmitted (278) via a wireless link. On a receive side (260), a receiving (260) communication device (250) receives the transmitted (230), encrypted symbols and provides decryption at a physical layer by shifting a phase of each encrypted symbol in correspondence with the phase (234) used to encrypt the symbol at the transmit side.
Abstract:
The need to facilitate wireless presence-based services more efficiently is addressed by embodiments of the present invention. In general, a wireless presence proxy (WPP) (131) caches presence updates (such as buddy list presence updates) from a presence server (161) for a mobile station (MS) (101). The WPP maintains presence information, which reflects the presence updates received, for transfer to the MS when an update condition exists. Thus, updates are made when, for example, a resource-efficient condition is present, such as the assignment of a traffic channel for other call activity. The WPP also updates the presence server, on behalf of the MS, when the MS presence status changes. In this manner, the embodiments described are able to reduce the system resources required to facilitate wireless presence-based services.
Abstract:
The embodiments disclosed provide a manner of transmitting voice information that strikes an improved balance between voice quality and RF capacity in a CDMA dispatch environment. In general, two half-rate vocoder frames (201 and 202) are assembled into a single full rate transmit frame (200) to enable the transmission of alternating full-rate frames. Additionally, an individual CRC (203 and 204) is provided for each half-rate frame within the transmit frame to allow for partial recovery when frame corruption or erasure occurs. In this manner, system capacity is improved, particularly in the CDMA dispatch environment, while preserving voice quality.
Abstract:
Portions of transmitted messages, such as a portion (42) of a service option field (31), can include a coded representation (63, 64). The coded representation can correlate to previously stored information (61, 62) as retained at a receiving unit (12, 13). Upon receiving the coded representation (63, 64), the receiving unit can use it to access a specific item of previously stored information (61, 62) and then use that information. For example, a previously stored text message can be displayed and/or special annunciation tones can be used to signify specific events, such as the initiation of an interconnect or dispatch call type prior to actual complete initiation of such a call. In one embodiment, a relative station of transmission as corresponds to the coded representation can also be used to further aid in correlating the coded representation to a specific item of information.
