    Abstract: A composition to be applied to the surfaces of metals for preventing corrosion and capable of being used as a lubricant, comprises a mineral oil distillate and a calcium, lead, zinc, magnesium or barium derivative of a dihydroxy dialkyl diaryl sulphide or polysulphide, the alkyl radicles having from 4 to 20 carbon atoms. Compositions specified are mineral lubricating oil with magnesium di-tert. amyl phenol sulphide, barium di-isobutyl phenol sulphide, barium di-tert. octyl phenol sulphide or calcium di-isobutyl phenol sulphide. The mineral oil distillate base may be blended with degras and sodium soaps of oil-soluble petroleum sulphonic acids as set out in U.S.A. Specification 2,182,992, or with chlorinated naphtha. Compositions mentioned for comparison purposes are mineral lubricating oil with cobalt tert. amyl phenol sulphide, stearyl alcohol or calcium octadecylate. Specification 555,053 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to an anti-corrosion composition comprising a mineral oil distillate and a calcium lead zinc magnesium or barium derivative of an alkyl phenol sulphide, alkyl phenol polysulphide, phenol or alcohol. The composition may be blended with alkali or alkaline earth soaps of oil-soluble petroleum sulphonic acids. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
