Abstract:
A process to mate a plurality of tissue webs includes in one embodiment providing first and second steel rolls and a second steel roll. The first steel roll has first protrusions, and the second steel roll has recesses. The embodiment includes forming a rotary nip between the first steel roll and the second steel roll, and advancing the plurality of tissue webs through the nip. The embodiment includes embossing first and second embossments into the plurality of tissue webs to connect the tissue webs to one another. The first protrusions press a first series of portions of the plurality of tissue webs into the recesses. The second embossments are created by one of pin-to-flat and pin-to-pin embossing. An apparatus suitable for carrying out the process is also disclosed.

In the method for manufacturing embossing rollers for a device for embossing packaging materials that comprises a set of at least two embossing rollers of which one is driven, and whereby the embossing roller set comprises a male roller having a male surface structure including structural elements and/or logo structures and a female roller having a female surface structure that is associated to the surface structure of the male roller for the common embossing operation with the male roller, the female surface structure is produced independently of a previously produced or physically pre-existing associated male surface structure. Along with a high embossing accuracy, this allows creating a very large variety of embossing structures, on one hand, and using a very large number of the most diverse materials, on the other hand, as well as reducing transverse tensions in the embossed material.

Methods and apparatuses for deforming a web are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method involves feeding a web (10) into a nip that is formed between at least tow intermeshing rolls (162, 170). The rolls are configured to deforming web with at least two sets of deformations that are oriented in different directions relative to the surfaces of the web.

The apparatus comprises a pair of mated forming structures having a first forming structure (102), a second forming structure (103), and a deformation zone (130); wherein at least the first forming structure (102) comprises voids (30,38), and wherein at least the second forming structure comprises protrusions (20,26) wherein at least one protrusion has center-to-center spacings of less than about 800 microns with at least three of its adjacent protrusions. The voids (30,38) of the first forming structure (102) are engagable with the protrusions (20,26) of the second forming structure (103) at an engagement position to form a micro - textured web (60). In another embodiment, the apparatus comprises a pair of counter- rotating rollers wherein the first roller comprises grooves having a length, wherein the length of the grooves are oriented at an angle different from the machine direction.

Die Prägevorrichtung zum Prägen von Verpackungsmaterial weist einen Satz Prägewalzen mit miteinander kooperierenden Patrizen- und Matrizenwalzen auf, deren Oberfläche mit Strukturelementen versehen ist, wobei die Strukturelemente (M6R6) auf der Oberfläche der Matrizenwalze (M6), die den Strukturelelementen (P6E6) auf der Oberfläche der Patrizenwalze (P6) zugeordnet sind, um einen Betrag von oberhalb 15 µm in axialer und radialer Richtung nicht invers kongruent sind und die einander zugeordneten Strukturelemente der Patrizen- und Matrizenwalze zwecks lokaler Druckerhöhung Facetten (F) aufweisen. Eine Facette (F) weist Flächen (FN) auf, die in Bezug auf die gedachte, stetige Oberfläche der Struktur geneigt ist. Mit solchen facettierten Walzen lassen sich eine sehr grosse Vielfalt von Folien ästhetisch ansprechend prägen, wobei die Folien vor allem in der Tabak- und Lebensmittelindustrie einsetzbar sind.
