Abstract:
Size-confined nanocomposite powders and methods for their manufacture are provided by coating fine powders with a nanoscale powder of a different composition. The nanocomposite plastics offer performance characteristics approaching those of metals and alloys. The nanocomposite powders are alternatively used for dispersion strengthening of metals, alloys, and ceramics. Materials based nanotechnology for energy devices and programmable drug delivery are included.
Abstract:
Reinforced copolymers formed from a functionalized copolymer that undergoes a reactive extrusion process with an inorganic component to form the reinforced copolymer. The functionalized copolymer in the form of a block and/or graft copolymer includes hard segments and soft segments, where the soft segments are covalently bonded with a coupling agent either before or after copolymerization with the hard segments. The reinforced copolymer of the present disclosure can be suitable for use as a biomaterial and/or in medical devices.
Abstract:
The invention provides electroconductive particles comprising a styrene copolymer core and an external gold coating, characterised in that as said copolymer core is used a styrene copolymer comprising less than 50 wt. % styrene residues.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a polymer nanocomposite and the process for preparation of the same, wherein a positive-electric polyelectrolyte, a layer-structured inorganic material, such as silicate clay, and a polymer latex comprising an negative-electric surface are “co-agglutinated” to result in a polymer nanocomposite.
Abstract:
Composite particles are provided comprising at least one core including at least one organic polymer in which is dispersed at least one hydrophobic active material. The hydrophobic active material is a cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food or plant-protection material. The composite particles also include one external coating including at least one oxide and/or hydroxide of aluminum, of silicon, of zirconium and/or of a transition metal and one intermediate layer, present at least partially between the core and the external coating and including at least one alkaline earth metal hydroxide.
Abstract:
Dispersed powders are disclosed that comprise fine nanoscale powders dispersed on coarser carrier powders. The composition of the dispersed fine powders may be oxides, carbides, nitrides, borides, chalcogenides, metals, and alloys. Fine powders discussed are of sizes less than 100 microns, preferably less than 10 micron, more preferably less than 1 micron, and most preferably less than 100 nanometers. Methods for producing such powders in high volume, low-cost, and reproducible quality are also outlined. Such powders are useful in various applications such as catalysts, sensor, electronic, electrical, photonic, thermal, biomedical, piezo, magnetic, catalytic and electrochemical products.
Abstract:
A polyimide film of 20 to 125 &mgr;m thick composed of aromatic polyimide prepared from an aromatic tetracarboxylic acid component (composed mainly of 3,4,3′,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid or its derivative) and an aromatic diamine component (composed mainly of p-phenyl-enediamine) and containing a micro-granular filler of metal atom-containing inorganic material, can be so denatured on its surfaces that an amount of the metal atom and a ratio of oxygen/carbon would increase by 0.03 to 1.0 atomic % and 0.01 to 0.20, respectively, on the processed surfaces, upon running in a gaseous mixture of argon and hydrogen between a plurality of activated plasma discharge electrodes arranged in a double line under such condition that the running polyimide film is free from contact with the electrodes.
Abstract:
A process for chemical mechanical polishing of a working film on a wafer, which entails conducting the chemical mechanical polishing with an aqueous dispersion containing water and composite particles, the composite particles containing polymer particles having at least one of a silicon compound portion or section and a metal compound portion or section formed directly or indirectly on the polymer particles.
Abstract:
In a silicone rubber composition comprising an organopolysiloxane having at least two aliphatic unsaturated groups and a curing agent, metallized particles of inorganic material or organic resin are effectively dispersed to give a conductive composition which cures into a conductive silicone rubber part having a low and stable volume resistivity.
