Disclosed herein are a lubricating composition comprising 5 to 65% by weight of a solid lubricant powder material, 5 to 20% by weight of a lubricating oil which is in a liquid or paste form at an ordinary temperature, 1 to 8% by weight of a carrier for absorbing and possessing said lubricating oil, 10 to 30% by weight of a thermoplastic resin, and 25 to 50% by weight of a thermosetting synthetic resin, and a sliding member comprising a metal substrate and a solid lubricant composed of the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
A lubricant to be sprayed onto the surface of a steel material for forming a lubricant coat on the surface of the steel material to be forged. The lubricant comprises a particulate lubricant composed of thermally melting resin mixed with inorganic lubricant. The particulate lubricant is applied onto the surface of a steel material to be forged. Before or after applying the particulate lubricant onto the surface of the steel material, the surface of the steel material is heated. Consequently, the thermally melting resin melts and coheres with the inorganic lubricant over the surface of the steel material, resulting in the formation of a uniformly thick lubricant coat over the steel material. The lubricant coat prevents the steel material from being burnt in a forging device even during hot forging. The lubricant coat is fit for the forging of hard to work steel material. The lubricant coat also contributes to the decrease in forging cost, without deteriorating the forging environment.
Abstract:
A lubricant additive for gear oils and an improved gear oil are disclosed. The additive comprises about 0.01 to about 65 percent, by weight, of solid lubricant particles selected from the group consisting of molybdenum disulfide, graphite, cerium fluoride, zinc oxide, tungsten disulfide, mica, boron nitrate, boron nitride, borax, silver sulfate, cadmium iodide, lead iodide, barium fluoride, tin sulfide, fluorinated carbon, PTFE, intercalated graphite, zinc phosphide, zinc phosphate, and mixtures thereof; combined with about 0.1 to about 25 percent, by weight, of a stabilizing agent consisting of an ethylene-propylene copolymer; and a fluid carrier. The lubricant additive provides the gear oil with improved demulsibility, stability, and compatibility characteristics of the gear oil when contaminated with water.

A lubricating oil composition which comprises a base oil of (A) 100 to 5 % by weight of a mineral oil having a kinematic viscosity at 40 DEG C of 2 to 2000 cSt, a viscosity index of 70 or higher, a nitrogen content of 20 ppm or less and a bromine value of 25 or less, and (B) 0 to 95 % by weight of polybutene having a molecular weight of 200 to 1000; and at least one additive selected from an extreme pressure agent, an anti-wear agent and an oiliness agent is disclosed. when the lubricating oil composition is used, fatigue damage of a metal is decreased and it shows good oxidation resistance.

In einer elektrischen Maschine mit einem Wälzlager (3), dessen Innenring (5) auf der Rotorwelle (2) der elektrischen Maschine sitzt, dessen Außenring (4) in einem Gehäuse (1) sitzt und das sich in einem abgeschlossenen Raum (8) befindet soll das Wälzlager (3) vor elektrischen Durchschlägen geschützt sein. Dazu enthält der Raum (8) eine Flüssigkeit auf wässriger Basis, deren Spiegel (13) die Außenkontur des Innenringes an seiner tiefsten Stelle (14) überragt. Dadurch sind Innenring (5) und Außenring (4) leitend verbunden und der Spannungsausgleich zwischen Rotor und Gehäuse (1) der elektrischen Maschine kann ungehindert und ohne Durchschläge erfolgen. In einer Anwendung als Getriebemotor ist auch das Schmiermittel des Getriebes eine Flüssigkeit auf wässriger Basis.

A process for functionalizing a carbon surface and the product thereof is disclosed. The first reactant used contains one or more electron withdrawing groups that thereafter can be reacted with other compounds. The reaction product has enhanced dispersability, interaction with other media, or other utilitarian uses, e.g. a reactive surface. The reaction product is then incorporated into an elastomeric or thermoplastic composition; it can be dispersed in a liquid media such as an ink, coating, or lubricant; or it can be used as a solid in applications such as a filtering media.

A solid lubricant and composition useful for lubricating the flanges of locomotive wheels, railcar wheels, rail track and in applications where it is desirable to reduce friction when metal contacts metal. The solid lubricant having from about twenty-five percent to about seventy percent by volume of a polymeric carrier, about five to seventy-five percent by volume of organic and inorganic extreme pressure additives, about zero to twenty percent by volume synthetic extreme pressure anti-wear liquid oil, and about zero to one percent by volume optical brightener.
