    Abstract: An optical component structure includes an elongate optical component, a support member to which the optical component is fixed, and an adhesive for bonding the optical component to the support member. The optical component is provided with a contacting portion and a bonding portion different in position from the contacting portion. The contacting portion is brought into direct contact with the support member in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the optical component. The adhesive is applied to the bonding portion, but not to the contacting portion. Examples of the optical component include a linear light source unit and a lens unit used in an image sensor module.

    Abstract: An image reader includes a transparent plate (1) having end portions (1a and 1b) that are chamfered in a direction in which a document is carried thereon. The transparent plate (1) has recess portions (11a and 11b) formed in a lower surface thereof, and a housing (4) is engaged into the recess portions of the transparent plate. The image reader can prevent such a document as a check or banknote from being jammed, can be easily assembled and improve the reliability of the carrying of the document, and enables higher-speed reading.

    Abstract: A scanner module and an image scanning apparatus employ an illuminator that includes at least one light emitting diode, a light guide to change the direction of the light from the light emitting diode, and a light source holder to which the light emitting diode is mounted, the light source holder being positioned in relation to the light guide such that the light source holder covers an incidence face of the light guide, on which the light from the light source is incident, the surface of light source holder facing the incidence face reflecting light incident thereupon. The reflection of light by the light source holder reduces the possibility of leakage of light, and can enhance luminous intensity of light of the illuminator.

    Abstract: A size-reduced image reading apparatus for optically reading an image drawn on the document surface. The size reduction is achieved this way. Two light sources are so mounted over the document surface at a specific angle formed with the document surface that they are a certain distance away from each other and bilaterally symmetrical. These light sources are surface light emitters made by forming a light-emitting layer on a transparent substrate. And a fiber lens formed of a plurality of bundles of optical fibers is mounted in the gap between the two surface light emitters. Even if the surface light emitter is brought close to the reading position, a uniform illuminance intensity can be obtained at this reading position. Furthermore, if a fiber lens with a small diameter is used in place of the rod lens, the conjugate length can be shortened.

    Abstract: A new technique is provided to manufacture a CIS module by employing an alignment-plate, a light-guide plate, and a resolution plate. The above plates can be selected to be pre-fabricated into one piece to reduce the number of components for the CIS module. The dimension of resolution definition structures of resolution plate determines the resolution of CIS module and allows only the reflect light from the image with a desired resolution to pass through. Consequently, it alleviates the butting difficulty in the convention butting operation to form a linear sensor array. Also, a signal reading technique is provided to improve the photo-response of the conventional photo-sensing device. Therefore, operation speed is increased and product performance is improved.
