An image processing system includes a client device including a limited display having a resolution less than VGA and a bit depth less than 24 bits for displaying a low resolution digital image and image processing operation indicators, an operator interface for user input, a CPU and a memory, the CPU being capable of running a limited client image processing program, and a first communication port; an image processing server for performing an image processing operation on a high definition image stored at the image processing server, for producing a low resolution version of the image for display on the limited display of the client device, and for producing image processing operation indicators indicating a particular image processing operation, the image processing server including a second communication port and being responsive to remote user inputs to produce a processed digital image; and a limited bandwidth mobile communication network connectable with the first and second communication ports for transmitting the low resolution image and the image processing operation indicators from the image processing server to the client device and transmitting remote user inputs from the client device to the image processing server.

In a printing system in which a digital camera (3012) (DSC) and PD printer apparatus (1000) are directly connected via a USB (5000), and image data is transmitted from the DSC to the PD printer apparatus and printed, Capability of the PD printer apparatus is transmitted from the PD printer apparatus to the DSC after communication procedures are established by an application (NCDP) installed in the PD printer apparatus and DSC. The PD printer apparatus is caused to execute print operation in accordance with print conditions set by the DSC on the basis of the transmitted Capability.

An image communication apparatus and a communication controlling method thereon, wherein in the case where image data having an attribute not specified by the ITU-T recommendation is transmitted, regardless of an attribute of image data to be transmitted, a reception command including a first image attribute specified by the ITU-T recommendation are sent out, and information including a second image attribute of image data to be transmitted is sent out in a phase transmitting the image data after the reception command is sent out. And when an image is transmitted with the second image attribute, a transmission takes place with a binary file transfer communication procedure following a first communication procedure specified by the ITU-T recommendation so that image data having an image attribute not standardized by the ITU-T recommendation can be transmitted.

An image apparatus that is connected to an outer apparatus and transmits image data to the outer apparatus, having therein; a generating means that generates binarized image data, an acquiring means that acquires the outer apparatus resolution data showing resolution of data which can be processed by the outer apparatus, a calculating means that calculates an image resolution data showing resolution of the image data, and calculates a reduction rate based on the image resolution data and on the outer apparatus resolution data, a dividing means that divides the image data into a plural matrixes in accordance with the reduction rate, a gradation judgment means that judges gradation of each matrix, a distinction means that recognizes a line-work in the image data and distinguishes whether pixels constituting the recognized line-work are present in each matrix or not, a gradation determining means that determines gradation after image processing in each matrix based on results of gradation judgment and on results of distinction, and an image processing means that replaces all pixels in each the matrix with one pixel having gradation determined by the gradation determining means to convert the image data and generates reduced data.

There are provided a communication apparatus and method that enables the retransmission of an electronic mail if an error occurs in the transmission of the electronic mail due to its excessive data size, by reducing the data capacity of the electronic mail without taking time and labor, and a program for implementing the method. In a digital copying machine as the communication apparatus , when an electronic mail that notifies an error relating to an electronic mail transmitted with image data attached is received, the error notification electronic mail is analyzed. If an error that is attributable to the data capacity of the electronic mail is detected from the analysis result, the image data attached to the electronic mail for which the error notice has been received is acquired and the capacity of the image data is reduced by lowering its resolution. The electronic mail to which the image data thus reduced in capacity is attached is retransmitted.

The data recorder (9) includes a resolution converter (91) for automatically converting the printing data to a proper resolution corresponding to the resolution of the digital printer (P). The resolution converter (91) is operable when the printing data has a volume exceeding an available capacity of the removable recording medium detected by a capacity checker (92).

In a receiver computer 100, a transmission controller 111 transmits user interface data 171 to a transmitter computer 200. In the transmitter computer 200, a display processing unit 213 causes a user interface for inputting print settings information to be displayed on the screen of a monitor 250, based on the transmitted user interface data 171. When the print settings information is input via an input device 240, a transmission controller 211 transmits color image data 271, color-correction source data 272, and the input print settings information to the receiver computer 100. In the receiver computer 100, a print processing unit 114 carries out a variety of processing operations with respect to color image data, based on the print settings information. A color correction element 118 in the print processing unit 114 carries out a color correction of the color image data using the color-correction source data 272 and color-correction destination data 172 read from a hard disk 170. A printer 180 prints a color image, which is expressed by the contents of the color-corrected color image data. This arrangement enables a printer connected to the receiver computer to print a color image based on the print data transmitted from the transmitter computer via a computer network, even if a printer driver exclusively provided for the printer has not been installed in the transmitter computer.

An electronic-mail address and communication condition information associated with the address are stored in an address book (13) in correspondence with each other. If a destination address is registered in the address book (13), before image transmission, a CPU (1) receives communication condition information corresponding to the destination address through an address book management section (12) and determines the transmission mode to the S or B mode on the basis of the communication condition information. When the transmission mode is the B mode, parameters representing the conditions of the image are determined on the basis of the communication condition information. The CPU (1) transmits the image under the determined conditions.
