    Abstract: Embodiments are directed to speakers and circuits that reflect sound off a wall surface (114) to a listening location at a distance from a speaker. The reflected sound (103) provides direct audio cues to reproduce audio objects that have direct audio components without the need for direct firing speakers. The speaker comprises sideward firing drivers (108) to reflect sound off of the wall surface (114) and represents a virtual direct speaker (116). A virtual direct filter is applied to the sideward-firing driver signal to improve the perception of direct audio transmitted by the sideward firing speaker (108) to provide optimum reproduction of the reflected sound. The virtual direct filter may be incorporated as part of a crossover circuit that separates the full band and sends high frequency sound to the sideward-firing driver (108).

    Abstract: Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft eine variable Vorrichtung zur Ausrichtung von Schallwellenfronten. Nach Huygens Prinzip können gekrümmte Wellenfronten aus Elementarwellen erzeugt werden. Durch geeigneten zeitlichen oder räumlichen Versatz der Elementarwellen können gekrümmte Wellenfronten erzeugt werden, die einer virtuellen Schallquelle entspringen oder in einem Focus Punkt kumulieren. Oft ist es ausreichend, eine oder zwei virtuelle Schallquellen oder Focus Punkte zu erzeugen, so dass die mechanische Ausrichtung der einzelnen Schallwandler einfacher zu realisieren ist als entsprechende elektronische Lösungen. Wenn die Schallwandler auf einer gekrümmten Fläche montiert werden, entsteht im Zentrum des Krümmungsradius eine virtuelle Schallquelle. Liegt sie hinter der Vorrichtung, so kann eine Wellenfront sehr gut auf den Zuhörerbereich ausgerichtet werden. Eine konkave Wellenfront mit einem Focus Punkt entsteht, wenn das Zentrum der Krümmung vor die Anordnung aus Schallwandlern gelegt wird. Jedoch ist die Form der Wellenfront starr an die Form der Oberfläche gebunden. Mit der erfindungsgemäßen Anordnung aus Schallwandlern lässt sich die Form der Wellenfront variabel gestalten. Einzelne Gehäuse mit Schallwandlern können derart gegeneinander verschoben werden, dass eine den jeweiligen Anforderungen an die Wiedergabe angepasste Wellenfront entsteht. Diese Form kann durch erneutes mechanisches verschieben der einzelnen Elemente der variablen Vorrichtung neu gestaltet werden.
