PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control system, a control device, and an associated control method capable of overcoming substantially or reducing a problem regarding the combustion control of an internal-combustion engine. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a self-adjusting engine control algorithm which uses an input from a transducer measuring the pressure of an engine cylinder and an input from an engine crank shaft rotating position sensor, a method for processing an input signal so as to make the self-adjustment of or learn precise values of (a) a pressure transducer voltage offset, (b) an error of a crank position encoder, and (c) an engine compression ratio, and an algorithm based upon an improved pressure ratio for calculating the heat radiation fraction of a cylinder as a function of a crank angle. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved bias spring arbor for reducing stress and hysteresis of a spring. SOLUTION: A torque bias coil spring for a camshaft phaser is disposed in an annular well formed in a phaser rotor and has a central arbor for supporting the spring. The radius of the central arbor is set so that the spring has a radial operating clearance of 5-10% in the prior art. However, the improved arbor includes regions of higher radius at the arbor ends supporting the innermost and outermost coils of the spring. These regions serve to prevent the spring from being laterally displaced during torsional motion, thus minimizing the relative motion at the spring contact points, reducing stress on the spring, and improving the efficiency of the spring by reducing frictional hysteresis. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dosing device suitable for dosing reagent to an exhaust chamber of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The dosing device comprises a nozzle main body and an insulating jacket wherein the jacket is mounted to the nozzle main body at one or more mounting points. The dosing device is adapted to engage with a port located in a wall of an exhaust chamber. The insulating jacket defines a compartment, which can comprise an insulating material or can be substantially evacuated. The dosing device is advantageously insulated from the elevated temperatures in the surrounding environment, thereby allowing for the reagent to be maintained at an optimal working temperature range. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a housing of an HVAC control device including a plurality of valves extending therein for directing airflows to a plurality of ducts. SOLUTION: The housing is of a type including a side port extending outwardly from the housing and in fluid-communication with one of the ducts. A drive gear is provided on the housing to drive a plurality of driven gears disposed on the housing for driving the plurality of valves. The driven gears are responsive to the drive gear through a transmission member comprising an annular idling gear in meshing engagement with the drive gears and at least one of the driven gears. The annular idling gear is rotatably supported on the housing and encircles the side port for efficient torque transfer between the drive gear and the driven gears. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for confirming failure in a fuel injection system. SOLUTION: An engine system is equipped with a first injection device and at least one other injection device. These injection devices are each equipped with a needle control valve and a pressure control valve. The control device is equipped with an input part for receiving data regarding a parameter of the engine system, and an output part for outputting a command for controlling each valve of the injection devices. A processing device is constituted to output a command for maintaining the needle control valve of the first injection device in a closed state and monitor the parameter of the first engine system so that injection of the first injection device is not performed. The change in the parameter of the first engine system indicates that the first injection device is operating substantially normally within the parameter operation, and no change or substantially no change of the parameter of the first engine system indicates that there is a failure in the first injection device. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a piezoelectric drive fuel injector to reduce level of noise generated by an injector. SOLUTION: A method of operating a fuel injector having an operable piezoelectric actuator, wherein the drive pulse has a frequency domain signature. The method includes a step determining at least one resonant frequency of an injector installation in which the injector is received, in use, and a step modifying the drive pulse such that a maximum of the frequency domain signature thereof is remote from the determined resonant frequency of the injector installation. The drive pulse is defined by tow or more drive pulse characteristics including a discharge period T DISCHARGE . An injector on period T ON , and peak discharge/charge current amplitude I. The step modifying the drive pulse includes a step modifying one or plurality of selected characteristics. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
