Abstract:
A testing device for testing adhesion seal strength of a tape to a substrate. The testing device includes a body defining a chamber having a first port in fluid communication with the chamber, a platform sealingly attached to the chamber and having an elongate opening or a plurality of openings therethrough as a second port of the chamber. The testing device further includes a frame removably mounted to the platform. The frame defines a perimeter that surrounds the second port and, when mounted to the platform, secures a test substrate thereunder against the platform with a fluid-tight seal. Methods for preparing a test sample and methods of operating the testing device are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a tape including a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto and an edge coating The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied The edge coating includes a flocculating agent, wherein the flocculating agent is an ionic polymer. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability by preventing paints, varnishes, paint strippers, and other coating compositions from infiltrating the tape substrate or the interface between the tape and an adherend
Abstract:
Tape dispensers with an improved wetting system are disclosed. The tape dispensers include a holder for a roll of liquid-activatable tape, a wetting system that has a reservoir of liquid and a roller having an absorbable outer surface to absorb and dispense liquid, and a feeding mechanism that operatively feeds the liquid-activatable tape through the wetting system to wet the adhesive on the liquid-activatable tape. The roller is at least partially immersed in the reservoir of liquid and the wetting system includes a roller adjustment mechanism to simultaneously adjust an upward force applied by the roller to the liquid activated tape and an immersion depth of the roller into the reservoir of liquid. The wetting system may also include a pressure mechanism to adjust a downward force applied to the liquid activated tape as it passes over the roller.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a tape including a substrate having an adhesive layer applied thereto and an edge coating. The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied. The edge coating includes a lipophilic agent, a flocculating agent, or combinations thereof. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability by preventing paints, varnishes, paint strippers, and other coating compositions from infiltrating the tape substrate or the interface between the tape and an adherend.
Abstract:
A process for continuous bulk polymerization is disclosed that includes providing a plug flow reactor comprising a primary loop reactor including a loop for recirculating a portion of a polymer-in-progress at a polymer flow rate back to a reactor in the primary loop reactor, introducing at least one monomer into the primary recirculation loop reactor at a monomer flow rate, polymerizing the monomer in the primary recirculation loop reactor in the presence of an initiator by way of a free-radical polymerization to form a polymer-in-progress, and recirculating a first portion of the polymer-in-progress through the loop into a reactor in the primary loop reactor to combine with the monomer at a ratio of polymer flow rate to monomer flow rate that is greater than 5.

Abstract:
This disclosure is directed to a continuous, low-shear process for the compounding and starch. In one aspect of the disclosure, the starch may be applied directly as a web, film, or layer, for example, in a tape product.
Abstract:
Repulpable water-activated tapes, in particular reinforced laminated, water-activated paper tapes and methods of making the same are disclosed. The repulpable water-activated tape includes an outermost paper layer having a top surface and a bottom surface, a reinforcement adjacent to the bottom surface of the outermost paper layer, an innermost paper layer having a top surface and a bottom surface, the top surface of the innermost paper later adjacent to the reinforcement, at least a portion of a starch-based laminating adhesive disposed about each of the outermost paper layer, reinforcement, and innermost paper layer, and a water-activated adhesive adjacent to the bottom surface of the innermost paper layer. A repulpable starch-based laminating adhesive and tape comprising same is also described.
