    Abstract: This invention relates to a porous crystalline synthetic material constituted by silicon and titanium oxides, a method for synthesizing said material, and the use thereof as a catalyst. Said material is given the name titanium silicalite or TS-1, and corresponds to the following formula: xTiO2.(1-x)SiO2 where x lies between 0.0005 and 0.04, preferably between 0.01 and 0.025. The material is prepared starting from a mixture constituted by a source of silicon oxide and a source of titanium oxide. The reaction takes place in the aqueous phase at a temperature of 130 DEG to 200 DEG C., and the solid product obtained is calcined in air at 550 DEG C. The TS-1 can be used for alkylation of toluene with methanol, or benzene with ethylene or ethanol, disproportioning of toluene to produce paraxylol, for cracking, hydrocracking, isomerization of n-paraffins and naphthenes, reforming, isomerization of substituted polyalkyl aromatics, disproportioning of aromatics, conversion of dimethylether and/or methanol or other alcohols to hydrocarbons, polymerization of compounds containing olefine or acetylene bonds, conversion of aliphatic carbonyl compounds into at least partly aromatic hydrocarbons, separation of ethyl benzene from other C8 aromatic hydrocarbons, hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons, methanation, oxidation, dehydration of aliphatic compounds containing oxygen, and conversion of olefines into compounds of high octane number.

    Abstract: Improved apparatus for distributing a liquid in film form in the interior of vertical tubes in which a counterflow or cocurrent flow of liquid-vapor takes place. The apparatus includes a cylindrical body having an annular ledge and helical grooves on its peripheral surface, and wherein the cylindrical body is slightly tapered downwardly and inwardly to enable it to be easily introduced into the tube and to enable it to be freely rotated about its own vertical central axis. In the case of counterflow circulation, the cylindrical body has a blind laterally perforated vent tube on its top surface. In each instance the rotation of the body is effected by the liquid being distributed to inhibit the formation of deposits of solids from the liquid being distributed on the inner wall of the vertical tube.

    Abstract: In processes for electrochemically extracting the metals contained in spent electrical accumulators, the accumulators are first immersed in activation tanks and then placed in dissolving tanks after connecting their poles to the direct current supply cables. This patent application discloses a plastics frame structure comprising numerous seats, each of which can house one accumulator. Each frame is provided with current-carrying bars from which there branch plastics-covered copper or aluminum cables, on the ends of which there are special contacts which are mounted on to the accumulator poles. The contacts are constructed in such a manner so as to protect the accumulator poles from being corroded by the electrolyte solution into which the frame is immersed. The use of the frame according to the invention simplifies and accelerates all the process operations, leading to a large reduction in operating costs.

    Abstract: In the synthesis of ammonia, a process is disclosed for treating the gases flowing from the synthesis reactor wherein those gases flow through a film absorber countercurrent to a cooled aqueous film to extract ammonia which is withdrawn as a strong solution from the absorber and scrubbed gases are combined for recycle with a stream of fresh feed which is then dehydrated by injecting liquid ammonia into the stream so that it rapidly expands and condenses the water vapor therein, and the dried gases are thereafter fed to the synthesis reactor.
