PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser beam machining method and a laser beam machining apparatus capable of performing the laser beam machining of a workpiece even when a surface of the workpiece is uneven. SOLUTION: Laser beams output from one light source 11 is reflected by a mirror 25, condensed by a lens 31 and radiated to an upper surface of a workpiece 90. Laser beams output from other light source 12 are reflected by a mirror 26, condensed by a lens 32 and radiated to the upper surface of the workpiece 90. The radiating direction of laser beams to the surface of the workpiece 90 by a first radiation optical system including the lens 31 and the radiating direction of laser beams to the surface of the workpiece 90 by a second radiation optical system including the lens 32 are different from the normal direction to the surface of the workpiece 90, and opposite to each other across the normal direction. A connecting portion ( 10 c) of a container ( 10 ) of a catalyst converter is formed with a joining portion ( 15 ) to be joined to a joining portion ( 16 ) of a flange member ( 11 ) by spinning working, and the joining portion ( 15 ) formed by the spinning working is joined to the joining portion ( 16 ) of the flange member ( 11 ) by friction welding. One of the connecting portion ( 10 c) of the container of the catalyst converter and the flange member ( 11 ) is extended so as to be disposed radially inward of the joining portions ( 15 ) and ( 16 ).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constituent body for a construction capable of obtaining high strength and accuracy and its construction method which is a steel frame structure constructed by constituent bodies for a construction such as column bodies or beam bodies and has a simple structure and excellent workability. SOLUTION: The structure has a steel pipe member 1 and a reinforced body 2 installed so as to cut cross the longitudinal inside of a steel pipe member in the inside hollow part 1a in the steel pipe member. The steel pipe member and the reinforced body are welded together to form a constituent body A of a construction. The steel pipe member is provided with an insertion hole 20 of the reinforcing body formed to have a width corresponding to the width of the reinforcing body at the fitting position of the reinforcing body, at the outer periphery of the steel pipe member. The insertion hole is continuously formed from the outer peripheral face of the steel pipe member to the inside. The reinforcing body is inserted in the substantially orthogonal direction to the longitudinal direction of the steel pipe member inserted from the outer peripheral face of the steel pipe member to the inside. For butt-welding, which includes bringing joining end surfaces (50 and 51) of a cup member (12a) and a shaft member (13a) into abutment against each other and radiating a high energy intensity beam from a radially outer side, the shaft member (13a) has a recess (52 or 53) on a radially inner side of the joining end surface (51) to obtain a welded portion (49) having a closed hollow cavity on a radially inner side after butt-welding. The joining end surface (50) (protruding surface (50a)) of the cup member (12a) protrudes toward a radially inner side with respect to an inner diameter (E) of the joining end surface (51) of the shaft member (13a). With this, a welded portion (74) of an outer joint member (11) of a constant velocity universal joint (10), which is manufactured by joining the cup member (12a) and the shaft member (13a), can be improved in strength and quality.

Provided is a method of manufacturing an outer joint member of a constant velocity universal joint, which is constructed by forming a cup section having track grooves, and a shaft section, and by welding a cup member and a shaft member, the method including: forming the cup member and the shaft member of medium carbon steel; preparing a cup member having a cylindrical portion and a bottom portion integrally formed by forging, and a joining end surface in a machining step; preparing a shaft member having a joining end surface formed in a machining step; bringing the joining end surface of the cup member and the joining end surface of the shaft member into abutment against each other; welding the cup member and the shaft member by radiating a beam; and performing, after the welding, an ultrasonic flaw detection-inspection step.

A method for joining a valve member for use within a valve, the method including brazing a body portion having a head and a base, the base having a bore extending a depth therein, to a leg portion having a shaft, the shaft having a distal end, a proximal end opposite the distal end, and a plurality of legs extending radially and axially therefrom and away from the proximal end, the brazing including placing a braze material between the bore and the proximal end, inserting the proximal end into the bore such that a portion of an outer surface of the proximal end is adjacent to an inner surface of the bore, and heating at least the adjacent surfaces to a braze temperature.
