    Abstract: A transfer mechanism for transferring items between one or more input streams and one or more output streams is disclosed. The transfer mechanism comprises a turret, an arm extending from the turret, and a carrier mechanism engaged with the arm.     Abstract: A sorting deck for paper, board, or pulp rolls has a plane (1) for transporting the rolls and controllable stops (2) for holding the rolls in place and releasing them.     Abstract: A conveyor delivers a series of cylindrical wrapped fibrous modules to a station where the module is lifted off the conveyor and an operation conducted on the module. One operation is to find a tail, or unattached segment, of the cover. Another operation is to remove the cover, by slitting and then unwinding it. The cover is delivered to a storage area and the contents of the module are delivered into a hopper, or in some embodiments, into a disperser. In some embodiments, a grabber moves the slit cover from adjacent a slitting position to a storage area and includes a guide wheel for moving a conveyor up and down in response to the configuration of the round module. In one embodiments, the plastic cover is removed manually by workers guiding the plastic wrap as it is unrolled by the unrolling device.

    Abstract: A walking beam conveyor for the intermittent movement of articles along a transport path is disclosed. Fixed holders are positioned along the transport path to receive the articles to be advanced, providing at least two actuating stations at spaced apart locations along the transport path. To move the articles between the actuating stations, first and second rollers are provided and are supported by a support surface so the rollers are movable therealong. Support links are pivotally mounted to their respective rollers about the rotational axis of the rollers. A connecting link interconnects the support links to substantially synchronize movement of the support links. A beam is pivotally secured to the support links and is consequently supported by the rollers and extends between the actuating stations. The beam has movable supports secured thereto for supporting the article when it is move between the actuating stations. A vertical driving device such as a hydraulic cylinder moves the beam between an article supporting or raised position, in which the article is supported by one of the movable supports, and a retracted or lowered position in which the article is supported by one of the fixed holders. The hydraulic cylinder has one end connected to the beam and the other end pivotally connected to one of the support links so that upon actuation of the hydraulic cylinder, the beam is moved between the articles supporting position and the retracted position. The hydraulic cylinder is pivotally connected to the support links on each side of the beam by a crosslink. The ratio of the distance between the rotational axis of the roller and the pivot point connecting the beam to the support link and the distance between the rotational axis of the roller and pivotal axis where the support link connects to the hydraulic cylinder is from between 1:2 to 1:3. A drive motor moves the beam along the support surface to move the article between the actuating stations A maintenance hood is provided for covering the hydraulic cylinder in a covering position and exposing the hydraulic cylinder for maintenance in an open position. The connecting links are connected to the support links so that the distance of a line interconnecting the connection points of adjacent support links and connecting links from the axis of each roller is substantially maximized. A method for operating such an apparatus is also disclosed.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a bobbin sorting and batch transfer apparatus which can collect a predetermined number of bobbins from vertically stacked storage racks each of which has a discharge port. A carriage is provided on which there are mounted one or more guide elements including vertical guides which can be juxtaposed proximate to the discharge ports. A chain drive bearing rollers is arranged to form holding bins or compartments which can be advanced in a planetary motion along the various guides. The rollers are spaced from the vertical guides to maintain the bobbins in equilibrium by arranging same to roll against the vertical guides, the rollers urging the bobbins to move through a closed loop path which can position any holding bin or compartment into proximate opposition to any discharge port in a given column of racks. Gates on the racks selectively release a bobbin wound with wires having specified characteristics into the selected bin or compartment, the chain drive being reversible to minimize distance traveled by any given bin or compartment to a discharge port. An ejection member is provided for ejecting all of the bobbins loaded onto the apparatus in a desired sequence independently of the manner or order in which the bobbins are initially placed into the holding bins or compartments.
