The invention relates to a method for producing polyHIPE porous monoliths, of the polyHIPE type or in the form of a rigid foam, by hardening solutions of condensed tannins in the presence of oil and/or air or in the presence of a non-water-miscible volatile solvent and/or air. The invention also relates to the use of these materials in the areas of catalysis, chromatography, heat and sound insulation, tissue engineering and medication release and as a floral foam.

The present invention is directed to a method for reducing monomer loss during curing of a high internal phase emulsion. The method has the steps of: forming a water-in-oil emulsion, curing the monomer component in the emulsion in a saturated steam environment, and forming a saturated polymeric foam material. The water-in-oil emulsion has an aqueous phase and an oil phase comprising a monomer component.
Abstract:
This invention, with the object of producing a porous polymer from a water-in-oil type high internal phase emulsion, provides a method for the production of a porous polymer comprising a step of applying a physical treatment such as shaving to the surface of a porous polymer obtained by polymerizing the emulsion. By the physical treatment, it is made possible to diminish the difference in texture between the surface part and the inner part of the porous polymer and improve efficiently the absorption property of the porous polymer.
