Abstract: A titanium alloy cable comprises a plurality of individual wire filaments (20). Groups of wire filaments are twisted together in a first helical direction around a central wire filament to make a strand (10). A plurality of strands are twisted together in a second helical direction around a core strand to make a strong, flexible cable. The first helical direction has the opposite sense to that of the second helical direction. In one embodiment, the cable has one hundred and thirty three wire filaments, each of diameter 0.0025 inches (64(my)m), arranged in nineteen equivalent strands and the titamium alloy is Ti-6 wt % A1-4 wt % V.

The steel cord of a stable structure can be obtained by controlling the proportion of the sizes of all layers of monofilaments, the rubber coating performance of a tire cord can also be improved, the corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, impact resistance and adhesion retention of a tire are improved.

Abstract: A steel wire rope is presented for use in elevators and lifting applications. The steel wire rope contains a core surrounded by multiple strands. The outer filaments of the core and the outer filaments of the strands are likely to contact one another during use. The outer steel filaments of the core have an average Vickers hardness that is at least 50 Vickers hardness numbers lower than that of the outer filaments of the strands. As the hardness of the outer filaments of the core is substantially lower than that of the outer filaments of the strands, those softer filaments will preferentially abrade away during use. In this way the core is sacrificed while preserving the integrity of the outer filaments of the strands. The use of this ‘sacrificial core’ results in a higher residual breaking load after use.

The strands of each hoisting rope may be twisted together to form the hoisting rope. A thickness of each hoisting rope may be greater than or equal to 2.5 mm and less than or equal to 8 mm. Each hoisting rope individually may contact one of the grooves. A cross-sectional area of the steel wires may be greater than 0.015 mm2 and less than 0.2 mm2. The strength of the steel wires may be greater than 2300 N/mm2 and less than 2700 N/mm2.

Abstract: A fire resistant rope and method of making the same. The fire resistant rope comprises a core, a jacket, and a fire retardant coating. The core comprises a plurality of strands. Each core strand comprises a plurality of core yarns, and each core yarn comprises a plurality of high tensile strength fibers. The jacket comprises a plurality of jacket strands. Each jacket strand comprises a plurality of jacket yarns and each jacket yarn comprises a plurality of high temperature resistant fibers. The fire retardant coating formed on at least one of the core and the jacket. The fire retardant coating expands when subjected to temperatures above a state-change level. At least a portion of the expanded coating inhibits transfer of heat to the core. The state-change level is below a failure temperature defined by the materials from which at least some of the fibers forming the core are formed.
