A steel cord characterised by a zigzag filament which is zigzagged two dimensionally or in a plane by a zigzag pitch length (Pw) and a zigzag wave height (h) and made up of straight segments each extending between zigzag peak points, each of the zigzag pitch lengths (Pw) and zigzag wave heights (h) being constant along the longitudinal direction thereof and either a second zigzag filament of the same type but having a different pitch length (Pw) or a straight filament such that the cord has an open construction so that rubber can penetrate it. The cord may be a single bunch or a twisting together of two or more bunches each comprising zigzag filaments. The cord may have zigzag filaments of at least two different zigzag pitch lengths. In each of these constructions the result is to give an open cord construction and the invention also includes a tyre incorporating such cord in the carcass breaker or the like.

The present invention relates to a metal fibre (1), at least one side face (2, 3) of the metal fibre (1) being provided with recesses (12, 22; 13, 23). It is preferred that the recesses (12, 22; 13, 23) are positioned at a regular distance from each other, and that the at least one recess (12, 22; 13, 23) is recessed with respect to the side face (2, 3) of the metal fibre (1) over a distance which is less than 50%, preferably less than 30% of the width of the metal fibre (1). The metal fibre (1) may further be provided with a plurality of undulations (6) extending in length direction of the metal fibre (1). The invention also relates to a method for producing such a metal fibre.

Device for manufacturing metal cords to be used particularly for reinforcing composite elastomeric products, comprising: a supporting structure (100); a rotor (5) engaged with respect to said supporting structure (100) and rotatable according to a predefined axis; a cradle fastened to said supporting structure (100) according to an oscillation axis which coincides with the rotation axis of the rotor (5); feeding devices operatively fitted on said cradle to feed several elementary wires from the respective feeding spools (8), said elementary wires being driven onto said rotor (5) according to a stranding path with and sections (10A, 10C) coinciding with the rotation axis of the rotor (5) and with a central section (10B) distanced from said rotation axis; at least one preforming device (15) operatively engaged with the cradle and operating on one of said elementary wires in a section upstream with respect to the first end section (10A) of the stranding path. Furthermore, said at least one preforming device (15) is suitable for providing said elementary wire with a substantially sinusoidal deformation without sharp edges.

A steel cord (10) for reinforcing a rubber product according to the present invention comprises a core (12) consisting of one steel filament (12A) and a sheath (14) consisting of a plurality of steel filaments (14A,14B,14C) wound around the core (12), with the steel filament (12A) forming the core (12) alternately having straight portions (16), whose axes are disposed on one line, and protrusions (18) formed by bending, and a pneumatic tire (28) according to the present invention comprises a carcass (32) having a toroidal shape extending over a pair of beads (34), and at least one belt layer (30) reinforcing the crown portion of the carcass (32), and the above-described steel cord (10) for reinforcing a rubber product is used in at least one of the carcass (32) and the belt layer (30). The present invention provides excellent durability, steering stability and uniformity.

본 발명은 강도 및 고무 접착력이 향상된 공기압 타이어의 고무제품 보강용으로 사용되는 단선 스틸코드에 관한 것으로서, 더욱 상세하게는 하나 또는 복수개의 파형을 포함하는 파형영역과 비파형영역을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 단선 스틸코드에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 단선 스틸코드는 고강도 특성으로 타이어 제조시 스틸코드 사용량을 대폭 절감할 수 있어 타이어 경량화를 실현할 수 있으며 생산공정의 단순화로 제조원가를 절감을 할 수 있다.

A zero degree tire reinforcing steel cord is formed by twisting together four to seven individual wires having a wire diameter of 0.20 to 0.45 mm, wherein the steel cord has a substantially spiral or a substantially planar wavy deformation, has an elongation of 1.2% to 2.0% under a tensile load of 50 N and becomes substantially linear with its wavy deformation disappearing under a tensile load of 50 to 250 N. The steel cord stretches to a moderate extent so as to track expansion of the tire in the radial direction during the vulcanization process and thereafter restrains expansion of the tire in the radial direction during continued high speed rotation of the tire.
