Abstract:
To improve tensile strength without impairing flexibility and adhesion to concrete, and to form a thick coating in a surface layer part for preventing a basis material from being exposed by damage to the coating, a method of forming double coatings on a prestressing strand includes a primary painting process after a pre-treatment process, in which a resin coating is formed only at the surface layer, a secondary painting process in which respectively individual state resin coating is formed on an outer peripheral face of each of the core wire and surrounding wires under a loosened and separated state, thereby forming a double coating for each surrounding wire, and a finishing process of tightening and retwisting the surrounding wires about the core wire to an original state. The obtained prestressing strand has the double coating portions only at the surface layer and sufficient flexibility and adhesion to concrete.
Abstract:
A (metal/rubber) composite comprising a rubber matrix reinforced with a metallic body adhering to the rubber matrix by means of an adhesive interphase; the rubber matrix is based on diene elastomer; the metal is a carbon steel, the carbon content of which is between 0.35% and 1.2%; to constitute the adhesive interphase, the carbon steel is coated with a metallic layer bearing aluminium oxides or hydroxides, which itself is covered by an organosilane film providing, as coupling agent, the bond between the aluminium oxides-hydroxides on one hand, and the rubber matrix on the other hand. The invention also relates to articles or semi-finished products made of rubber which are reinforced with or formed by such a composite, in particular tires.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for treating metal substrates and/or bonding metal substrates to polymeric materials, such as rubber, are provided. The compositions include at least one substantially hydrolyzed amino silane and at least one substantially hydrolyzed sulfur-containing silane. Optionally, the compositions include a nano-size particulate material. The compositions provide coatings on metal substrates for protecting the metal from corrosion and for adhering rubber-like polymeric compositions to the metal with polymer-to-metal vulcanization conditions less dependent on the coating thickness, and with use of less coating materials.
Abstract:
In a composite of vulcanizable rubber or rubber-like composition with one or more metal reinforcement elements embedded therein, the metal reinforcement element is coated with a polymer or non-cured rubber composition compatible with and co-polymerizable, co-vulcanizable or crosslinkable with said vulcanizable ruber composition to be reinforced, and additionally bearing functional groups either covalently bonding to the metal surface of said reinforcement element or forming covalent bonds with the outward directed first functional groups of a mono- or multimolecular layer of a bifunctional adhesion promoter intercalated between said metal and said coating and bound to said metal by its second functional groups. A cured rubber or rubber-like product, for instance a pneumatic tire, is obtained by vulcanization of such a composite.

Abstract:
A tire steel cord which is produced by coating the surface of a brass-plated steel cord with a compound selected from the group consisting of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxy pyrimidine, 3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid and m-anisic acid, is disclosed. The tire steel cord has excellent initial and aged adhesion to rubber, improved rubber coverage and controlled oxidation rate on its surface.
Abstract:
A corrosion resistant PC steel stranded cable for a pretensioning method has a core wire and a plurality of side which are coated firmly for the corrosion proof with paint of a synthetic resin material while maintaining a stabilized stranded condition. The cable comprises the single core wire and the plurality of side wires disposed in a closely contacting relationship with each other and also with the core wire in such a manner as to define a plurality of spiral air gaps between the core wire and the side wires and also to define a plurality of spiral recessed grooves between individual adjacent ones of the side wires on the outer side of the side wires. Each of the core wire and the side wires are processed by blueing in advance. Paint of a synthetic resin material is filled in the spiral air gaps, and a coating layer of paint of a synthetic resin material is formed substantially with a uniform thickness on an entire outer periphery of the side wires including the spiral recessed grooves. A process of and an apparatus for producing such corrosion resistant PC steel stranded cable are also provided.
Abstract:
Steel ribbons and wires having quenched martensite or bainite microstructure are disclosed having an organic adhesive coating which is degraded at the steel-adhesive interface. The products are useful as steel tire reinforcements.
Abstract:
A wire rope or strand is provided with a plastic foam type internal sealant and corrosion resistant outer strands or wires to provide superior corrosion resistance at low cost for wire strands and ropes requiring a bare metal surface.
