A dental color system is provided, which comprises a smaller number of primary colors and mixed colors and has the optimum colors conformable with natural teeth adjacent to a dental prosthesis. A dental color system includes primary colors and mixed colors assigned to coordinates in the CIElab color space in which the colors of natural teeth are primarily situated on coordinates within an oval space(18) having an assigned longitudinal axis(22). The primary colors consist of first primary colors(32,34,36,38) and at least one group of second primary colors(112). The coordinates of the first primary colors are situated on a baseline that extends from light to dark in the CIElab space and on the longitudinal axis of the oval space. The coordinates of the at least one group of second primary colors are situated on a plane(107,109) that intersects the longitudinal axis or baseline at right angles. The coordinates of the mixed colors are intersecting points of first and second straight lines(114), whereby at least one straight line extends parallel to the longitudinal axis or baseline and each of the second straight lines connects one coordinate of the first primary colors with one coordinate of the second primary colors.

A method of testing the color quality of a colored gemstone is disclosed, taking the gem color as an entirety visually composed of different color components, whose total amount of color components is constant, so as to calculate hue-purity, color-strength and relative chromaticity of the gem color to test the color quality. The method comprises the following steps: (1) determining blackness, chromaticness and hue of the gem color; (2) calculating the hue-purity, color-strength and relative chromaticity in accordance with the blackness, chromaticness and hue; (3) finding a matching color in a pre-established standard color library for this specific gemstone according to the hue-purity, color-strength and relative chromaticity calculated in step (2), and use the name of the matching color to indicate the gem color and color quality.

A color tag comprises a substrate having a visually detectable tint associated with a portion thereof and a code which reflects color information relating to individual color parameters of said visually detectable tint, as well as identity information that specifically identifies said color tag itself. Identifiable and serialized tags have integrated technology that facilitates the tracing and evaluation of any individual tag at any point along a manufacturing and transportation process.
