Abstract:
A reader includes a housing with a platen on which a document is placed, a light source unit which moves along the platen and irradiates light toward the document, a mirror unit which works with the light source unit to define an optical path of the reflected light from the document in the housing, and a rotatable lock member mounted on one of the light source and mirror units. The housing includes an operation member, which is slid to fix the light source and mirror units, and a slide surface, which holds the sliding operation member. The lock member is rotated between an engaged position, where the lock member is engaged with another of the light source and mirror units, and a disengaged position, where the lock member is disengaged from the other of the light source and mirror units in response to slide operation of the operation member.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus includes a document positioning plate configured to position a document thereon, a document pressing unit which is attached to the document positioning plate to be openable and closable, a reading sensor which is movably arranged in a main body of the apparatus and configured to read an image of the document positioned on the document positioning plate, and a restricting unit configured to engage with the reading sensor to restrict a movement of the reading sensor, wherein the restricting unit has a lever which is provided in the document pressing unit in a rotatable and storable manner and urged in a direction in which the lever is stored and restricts the movement of the reading sensor in a state that the document pressing unit is closed and the lever is inserted into the main body of the apparatus, and when the document pressing unit is opened from the restricting state, the lever is pulled out from the main body of the apparatus to release the restriction and urged to be stored in the document pressing unit.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overhead type scanner capable of protecting an optical system at a fall.SOLUTION: An overhead type scanner has: a main body 10; a rotary unit 20 freely rotatably supported around a rotation axis X to the main body; an imaging device 22 mounted on the rotary unit and reading a reading medium S placed on a placing surface 2 provided downward in a vertical direction, of the rotary unit; a light source 21 irradiating the reading medium with light; a driving device fluctuating (Y1) the rotary unit around the rotation axis to a placing side where the reading medium is placed to a standby position where the imaging device does not perform reading of the reading medium; and posture change detection means 32 detecting a posture change of the main body. When it is determined that the main body will fall on the basis of the posture change at the time when the rotary unit is at a reading possible position where the imaging device can perform reading of the reading medium, the driving device fluctuates the rotary unit toward the standby position.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce breakage of an image reading device in an image forming apparatus in which the image reading device and a cover covering an exchange member are opened and closed in conjunction therewith.SOLUTION: There are provided: an image reading device including a document platen and an image reading portion having a light source portion, a light receiving portion, a reflection portion and a carriage for supporting the light source portion or the reflection portion; an exchange cover that covers an exchange member and is opened and closed integrally with the image reading device; a main portion for storing an operation portion that operates based on image data; an opening/closing shaft for connecting the image reading device and the main portion and for rotatably pivoting the image reading device and the exchange cover in a contacting/separating direction to/from the main portion; an opening/closing detection portion for detecting opening/closing state of the image reading device and the exchange cover; and a movement control portion for moving the carriage in a sub-scanning direction. When the image reading device and the exchange cover are in opening state, the movement control portion moves the carriage to a retreat position which is provided outside the document platen and within a certain predetermined area with respect to the opening/closing shaft.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner which permits automatic unlocking of carriages at the time of installation. SOLUTION: The optical scanners (100, 200) are provided with chassis (102 and 202) which have panels (108 and 208) provided with apertures (125 and 225) penetrated through the chassis, the scanner carriages (110 and 210) which are movably supported within the chassis, and carriage locking devices (120 and 220) which are arranged movably within the apertures of the panels and have locking members (122 and 222) for fixing the scanner carriages to the relatively determined positions with respect to the chassis when the devices are moved to a downward direction (Z) within the apertures. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dust from entering a housing after a carriage fixing screw is removed by providing a valve body for the fixing screw which allows the carriage fixing screw to be inserted into a through hole and closes the through hole after removal although a carriage is prevented from unnecessarily moving by clamping the carriage fixing screw from the outside of the housing when an image reader is carried. SOLUTION: The fixing screw valve body 41 is stuck inside the through hole 23 for the carriage fixing screw 21 which is formed in a wall part 5e of the housing 5. The fixing screw valve body 31 has a tearing part 31a formed at the center part of a plate type member formed of an elastic body such as rubber and synthetic resin. When the carriage fixing screw 21 is inserted, the valve body flexes at the cut part 31a to allow its insertion and restores itself to the original shape after the carriage fixing screw 21 is removed to close the through hole 23. Thus, dust is prevented from entering the housing 5. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
