    Abstract: Water activated tapes, in particular film laminated, water activated paper tapes and methods of making the same are disclosed. The film laminated, water activated paper tapes include a paper backing having a top surface and a bottom surface, a water activated adhesive applied to the bottom surface of the paper backing, and a film reinforcement structure applied to the top surface of the paper backing. The film reinforcement structure includes an outermost oriented film, and a lamination layer. The lamination layer may include one or more of an enhanced polyethylene resin, a polyolefin plastomer, a very low density polyethylene, a nylon, a polyester, and a co-polyester laminating the outermost polyolefin film to the paper backing. The laminating of the film reinforcement structure to the paper backing is an extrusion lamination process that includes coextruding the outermost polyolefin film and the lamination layer onto the paper backing.

The substrate and the adhesive together provide at least one masking edge where the edge coating is applied. The edge coating includes a lipophilic agent, a flocculating agent, or combinations thereof. The edge coating provides the tape with enhanced masking ability by preventing paints, varnishes, paint strippers, and other coating compositions from infiltrating the tape substrate or the interface between the tape and an adherend.

    Abstract: A device for testing adhesive tape including a sample holder located in a first plane and a movable platen having a major surface located in a plane perpendicular to the plane in which the sample holder is located.     Abstract: Masking tapes that changes color when the tape is rubbed down or dispensed onto an adherend and methods of making such tapes are disclosed herein. The tape includes a backing, a layer of adhesive on the bottom surface of the backing, and a release structure on the top surface of the backing that includes a pressure-chromic indicator and a release layer. The pressure-chromic indicator is characterized in that it is not activated by the pressure applied during the manufacturing process, but is activated by the pressure applied when the tape is rubbed or dispensed onto an adherend.

    Abstract: A roofing underlayment comprises a reinforcing layer, which is extrusion coated on at least one side with an anti-slip coating layer. The reinforcing layer comprises a woven polyethylene or polypropylene scrim. The anti-slip coating layer comprises a compound based on a styrene and ethylene/butylene-styrene, S-E/B-S, block copolymer, such as the compound sold under the trademark KRATON.RTM. MD6649. The anti-slip coating layer may also be embossed. The anti-slip coating layer is low in cost and helps prevent water from penetrating the primary roofing material. In addition, the anti-slip coating layer provides an improved anti-skid surface upon which an individual may safely walk. Embossment improves the wet slip resistance of the roofing underlayment.
