    Abstract: A technique facilitates selection of optimum flow control valve settings to improve a desired objective function in a multizone well having zonal isolation. A network of flow control valves is provided in a completion network disposed along isolated well zones of at least one lateral bore of the multizone well. Data is acquired from downhole in the multizone well and processed on processor system modules which may be used in selected combinations. Examples of such modules comprise completion network modules, deconvolution modules, optimization modules, and/or inflow-outflow modules. The modules are designed to process the collected data in a manner which facilitates adjustment of the flow control valve settings in the network of flow control valves to improve the desired objective function.

    Abstract: A technique facilitates detection of an event in a subterranean environment, e.g. in a wellbore. A tool may be deployed to a desired wellbore location or other subterranean location for actuation between operational positions. An acoustic system also is deployed to detect a unique acoustic signature associated with an event related to operation of the tool. Upon detection of the unique acoustic signature, the acoustic system transmits data to a surface location or other suitable location to indicate occurrence of the event. An example of such an event is transition of the tool between operational positions.

    Abstract: A method for controlling a drilling system comprising a drive system, drillstring and drill bit. The drive system rotates the drillstring during a drilling process to drill a borehole through an earth formation. The method involves setting a desired rotation speed v 0 for the drillstring; receiving property measurements of the drilling system and deriving therefrom the component v up of the rotation speed of the drillstring associated with upgoing rotational energy; determining a rotation speed v for the drillstring by optimizing an expression which reconciles two conflicting objectives of: (i) maintaining a stable rotation speed centred on v 0 , and (ii) minimizing the downgoing rotational energy, the optimized expression expressing v in terms of v 0 and v up ; and controlling the drive system to rotate the drillstring at v.

    Abstract: A packoff device is disclosed for sealing an annulus within a wellbore, and for bypassing the sealed annulus. The packoff device may include a mandrel having a bore formed axially therethrough and first and second ports extending radially from the bore. A sealing element that extends radially-outwardly from the mandrel may be positioned axially between the first and second ports, and may create a seal within an annulus between the mandrel and a casing, to isolate a portion of the annulus above the sealing element from a portion below the sealing element. A sleeve within the bore may, with the mandrel, form a channel providing fluid communication between the first and second ports. The sleeve may be movable between open and closed states. The first and second ports may be unobstructed by the sleeve in the open state, one or more may be obstructed in the closed state.
