Abstract: A device is disclosed, which is intended for reducing the fuel consumption and the environmental pollution. An auxiliary power unit is provided, which is energized when a sensing mechanism signals to a signal-processing and control circuit that the engine is idling, for example, at a traffic light stop, or that a deceleration of the vehicle occurs. The fuel intake is cut off and a timing system provides to exclude the fuel feed to the engine for a certain selectable time. When such conditions are sensed, the auxiliary power unit (hydraulic or electric) provides to have the engine running without fuel use up. As normal traffic conditions are resumed, fuel is readmitted and the usual operation is started once again.

The alumina may contain 0À5-12 wt. per cent of surface-modifying silica. Preferred organosilicon compounds are esters of orthosilicic acid. Examples describe the isomerization of butenes and pentenes.

Abstract: The mechanical and thermal properties of aluminum oxide, such as gamma alumina, adapted for use as a catalyst or catalyst carrier are improved through a treatment thereof with a silicon compound such as an alkyl orthosilicate in which the aluminum oxide is impregnated with the silicon compound or a solution thereof in a compatible organic solvent whose boiling point is lower than the boiling point of the silicon compound. The impregnated aluminum oxide is dried at a temperature in the range from above the boiling point of the silicon compound to 500 DEG C and is then subjected to controlled oxidation.

Abstract: A method for preparing nontoxic, edible proteinic concentrates adapted also for human nutrition, is disclosed according to which undesirable compounds such as polyphenols (e.g. chlorogenic and caffeic acids) are complexed by aluminum salts to prevent oxidizing these polyphenols to quinones. It is important that aluminum be constantly kept in soluble form to prevent it from being precipitated together with the proteins when protein-precipitating acidification is carried out. Citric acid has been found to be the best complexing agent.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing tertiary olefins starting from the corresponding tertiary ethers, the improvement consisting in contacting the ether with a catalyst composed by active alumina modified by reaction with a silicon compound selected among those corresponding to the general formula: wherein X,Y,Z and W can be -R, -OR, -Cl, -Br, -SiH3 , -COOR, -SihnOm, R being hydrogen, an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkyl-cycloalkyl radical of from 1 to 30 carbon atoms, n and m being integers comprised between 1 and 3. The advantages afforded by the invention are mainly the nearly quantitative yields and the high purity of the end products.
