Abstract: A method of colour saturation compensation in a video signal is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: processing a luminance signal component of the video signal; determining whether the processing of the luminance signal results in a change in chrominance saturation; if the step of determining reveals that the chrominance saturation has changed, applying a chrominance compensation signal to the chrominance signals to counteract the effects of chrominance saturation, wherein said step of applying a compensation signal include the steps of: generating a compensation signal which is dependent on hue and luminance ratio (output luminance signal / input luminance signal). Apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

Abstract: An edge enhancement system, including a selective edge controller for determining one or more properties of an edge of image data, and for generating one or more weighting factors on the basis of properties of the edge; and a scaling module for scaling an edge enhancement signal by the weighting factors to control the degree of edge enhancement. The image data may represent a still or moving (i.e., video) image. A max-min search circuit determines maximum and minimum turning points closest to the center of the data processing window and that are located on opposing sides of the window, to determine values and locations of maximum and minimum pixels of the edge. An edge-directed prefiltering circuit reduces the amplification of edge fuzziness by smoothing close the edges vertical prior to enhancement. An aliasing protection circuit reduces the visibility of sawtooth defects on predominantly horizontal diagonal edges.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for performing the modular operation S=AB mod N. The apparatus is arranged such that the constant J0 which is ordinarily required in order to complete the operation is not required to be explicitly computed, thus simplifying and speeding up the operation.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for coding audio data in a frequency transform digital audio coder employing differential frequency coefficient exponent coding. Differential coding of exponents places constraints on possible values an exponent can take, which can lead to distortion in the decoded and reconstructed audio signal. The method and apparatus herein can overcome this restriction by mapping the input exponent set to a new set of values which satisfy the differential constraint as well as reducing information loss, thereby minimizing overall signal distortion due to coding restrictions.

Abstract: PCT No. PCT/SG97/00047 Sec. 371 Date Aug. 13, 1999 Sec. 102(e) Date Aug. 13, 1999 PCT Filed Sep. 29, 1997 PCT Pub. No. WO98/20683 PCT Pub. Date May 14, 1998This invention relates to the color matching function used in connection with the luminance or white stretch function in a television video processor. Automatic adjustment in the amplitude of the color difference signals is provided to compensate for the effect of the stretch of the luminance signal in a provision called color matching. The general principal of color matching being, any percentage change in the amplitude of the luminance signal due to the white stretch effect, must be balanced by the same percentage changes in the color difference signal so that the ratio of the color signals can be maintained after matrixing. This accomplished by compensating the color difference signals by a varying amount that decreases with increasing the input luminance signal level when the level of the input luminance signal is above said selected threshold.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining parameters for coupling of channels in a digital audio encoder. A frequency range of two audio channels is coupled together in a coupling channel, and a systematic method of determining optimum coupling parameters is employed. Sub-bands of the channels are processed individually, and a measure of the power of each sub-band is used to determine a coupling coefficient generation scheme for each individual sub-band. Adjacent ones of the sub-bands using the same coupling scheme are combined to form bands in the coupling channel, which dictate the generation of the coupling coordinates for the audio channels. The arrangement of the sub-bands in bands also facilitates the generation of phase flags for each band, on the basis of the coupling scheme used in the band.
