Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument system consisting of a handpiece having a coupling assembly and a supplementary cutting accessory designed to fit in the handpiece.
SOLUTION: The system 30 includes the handpiece 32 storing a motor 34. An attachment 36 is detachably fitted to a front distal end of the handpiece 32. The coupling assembly 38 is disposed inside the attachment 36. The coupling assembly releasably retains the cutting accessory 40 to a pedestal of the system 30. The coupling assembly transmits a torque generated by the motor 34 of the handpiece to the cutting accessory 40.
