Abstract:
In one aspect of the invention, a thermite containing apparatus (160) is run into the wellbore (105) on a wire line and a window is subsequently formed in casing wall. In another aspect of the invention, the apparatus includes a run-in string or drill stem (110) with a drill bit (120) attached to a lower end thereof. A diverter (130), like a whipstock is attached temporarily to the drill bit with a mechanically shearable connection (132). At a lower end of the whipstock, a container (160) is formed and connected thereto. A telescopic joint (200) extends between the bottom of the container and an anchor (280) therebelow. The assembly allow to form a window and drill a lateral in a single trip.
Abstract:
An apparatus for launching at least one plug into a tubular in a wellbore, said apparatus comprising a hollow upper section and a hollow lower section, said hollow upper section comprising at least first and second upper ports (12, 13) longitudinally spaced therein, said second upper port (13) being disposed above said first upper port (12), a landing seat (7) between said hollow upper section and said hollow lower section, and a fluid displaceable member (4) retained below said second upper port (13), said hollow lower section adapted to retain at least one plug (8) and comprising at least a first lower port (10) thereabove and a landing collar (6) for said fluid displaceable member (4), the arrangement being such that in use, when the apparatus is installed at the top of a liner and lowered into a wellbore, and a dart lands on said landing seat (7) blocking said first upper port (12) a fluid pressure differential can be created about said fluid displaceable member (4) through said second upper port (13) which displaces said fluid displaceable member (4) to said landing collar (6), allowing a fluid pressure differential about said plug through said first lower port (10) to launch said plug.
Abstract:
An apparatus for expanding a liner patch in a tubular to seal a hole therein, said apparatus comprising a body (134, 206, 306) having a top portion (133, 209, 309), a bottom portion (146, 229, 336) and a middle portion, the middle portion having an outer diameter greater than the top portion and an outer diameter greater than the bottom portion; a first set of fingers (135, 208, 308) disposed around the top portion of said body and a second set of fingers (156, 228, 335) disposed around the bottom portion of said body; the arrangement being such that, in use, said fingers can be urged radially outwardly by displacement thereof over said middle portion.
Abstract:
An apparatus for running a tubular, which apparatus can be positioned in close proximity to a well centre and comprises a base (10) and a magazine (7) which can hold a plurality of tubulars (9) and which is rotatably mounted on said base (10), characterised in that said magazine (7) can be reloaded in the proximity of said well centre after a tubular (9) has been dispensed therefrom.
Abstract:
A milling apparatus which comprises a mill, and a starter bar which depends from said mill, characterised in that said starter bar is detachably connected to said mill.
Abstract:
Milling apparatus (10) comprises three blades (20) the lower part of which are pivotally monted to a mill body (12). The blades (20) pivot outwardly in response to downward movement of a wash tube (30) which contacts the blades (20). The blades (20) have a milling surface which, in use, is parallel to a central longitudinal axis of the mill body (12) so that "full sweep" milling can be achieved.
Abstract:
A shoe (100) comprises a body portion (101) attachable to casing (105), and a nose portion (103) rotatably mounted on the body portion (101).
Abstract:
A centralizer (100) is provided with seals (106) and a first passsageway (109) provided with a check valve (107). In use, the centralizer (100) is pushed over the end of a tubular and slid therealong to a desired position. Adhesive is then injected through the first passageway (109) into the cavity between the tubular and the bore (105) of the centralizer (100). Air trapped in the cavity can be released by upsetting a check valve (108) provided in a second passageway (110). On curing the centralizer (100) is firmly secured to the tubular.
Abstract:
A centralizer (10) comprises a tubular body (12) provided with two spaced apart grooves (18). The ends of spring bows (20) are mounted on collars (24, 26) which are slidably mounted in respective ones of the grooves (18). In use, movement of the spring bow (20) against the tubular body (12) can be accommodated by movement of the collars (24, 26) along the grooves (18).
Abstract:
An anti-rotation device (7; 107) for use in a well tool, for example a top plug (1) or a bottom plug (101), has a tapered male member (7; 107) having a corrugated outer surface (8; 108) which can enter a corresponding recess (114; 214) in another well tool to inhibit relative rotation therebetween.
