Abstract: A catalyst of formula P, Mo12As0.2-2.0Cs0.1-1.0V0.1-2.0Tl 0.1-2.0 Cu0.1-2.0X0.1-0.5Oa [where X= Pd, Pb, Ba or Ca; a= bal. no. for prepg. methacrylic acid is prepd. by (a) adding soln. of B (contg. Tl(C2H3O2), CsNO3, Cu(NO3)2. 2.5H2O and nitrate of the X) to aq. soln. of A(contg. H3PMo12O40, H3AsO4 and V2O5) to coppte, (b) heating at 40-100 deg. C on a stirrr to obtain slurry, (c) vacuum-drying at 20-100 deg. C and molding, and (d) calcining for 3-15 hr at 320-400 deg. C in the air or N atm.. The methacrylic acid is prepd. by contacting methacrolein with O in the presence of the catalyst.
