Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for extending the protocol synchronization period between a PPP client and a PPP server, wherein the PPP server is located on a wireless communication device. In one aspect, the PPP server generates and sends an IPCP Configure-Nak message to the PPP client whenever the PPP client sends an IPCP Configure-Request message, wherein an arbitrary non-zero value is deliberately sent as the primary DNS address, the secondary DNS address, the primary WINS address, or the secondary WINS address is sent in the IPCP Configure-Nak message. The IP address is deliberately omitted from the IPCP Configure-Nak message.

Abstract: A method and a wireless communication device (MT2) for simultaneously negotiating LCP or IPCP configuration options over both the Rm and the Um interfaces. When the MT2 device receives either an LCP or an IPCP Configure-Request packet over one of the Rm or the Um interfaces, the MT2 device parses the requested configuration options and determines whether the requested options are supported by the MT2 device. If the requested options are supported, the MT2 device saves a Configure-Request ID, included in the Configure-Request packet, and frames the Configure-Request packet in a PPP frame for transmission on the other of the Rm or the Um interfaces. If any of the requested configuration options are not supported by the MT2 device, the MT2 device creates a Configure-Reject packet, including the unsupported options, and frames the Configure-Reject packet in a PPP frame for transmission over the interface through which it received the Configure-Request packet.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a method for early determination of network support for Mobile IP is disclosed. A mobile node is in communication with a wireless network. Then a test is performed for a disconnect condition wherein the disconnect condition is an early indication of network non-support for Mobile IP as identified by at least a requirement for authentication. Early indication relates to identification of the non-support for Mobile IP prior to or during network packet connection. If the disconnect condition is found, the mobile node disconnects from the wireless network. If the disconnect condition is not found, the mobile node stays connected to the wireless network.

Abstract: A method and a wireless communication device capable of flow controlling data to be sent from a TE2 device over a Rm interface when PPP renegotiation occurs over a Um interface. Flow control is asserted by the MT2 device by means of manipulating electrical signaling of a physical interface between the MT2 device and the TE2 device. A second embodiment provides a method and a wireless communication device for buffering data on the MT2 device when the PPP renegotiation of the Um interface occurs. In a third embodiment, data is buffered when the PPP renegotiation of the Um interface occurs. Abstract: Techniques for performing system selection based on a usage model that uses "access strings", "profiles", and "activation strings" are described. Access strings are defined for wireless data services and provide a highly intuitive user interface. Each access string is associated with one or more profiles. Abstract: The packets generated by each of multiple packet data applications are provided to a single Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) stack and a single High-level Data Link Control (HDLC) framing layer to convert data packets into byte streams suitable for transmission through Radio Link Protocol (RLP) connections. Each of the resultant multiple byte streams is then provided to one of multiple RLP connections having different retransmission and delay properties. The RLP connection selected for sending data from each application is based on the grade of service most appropriate for the application. At the receiver, the data from the multiple RLP connections is provided to a single PPP stack.
