Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A network device, such as a base station, may transmit a set of reference symbols to a user equipment (UE). Each set of reference symbols may include two (or more) beamformed signals. The network device may receive, based on the set of reference symbols, a measurement report from the UE. The measurement report may include a co-phasing indicator associated with the set of reference symbols. The network device may identify, based at least in part on the measurement report, an antenna port precoder configuration to use for communicating with the UE.

A wireless node may establish a wireless connection between the wireless node and a second wireless node in a wireless backhaul communications network. The wireless node may identify a first set of common resources for use in at least one of access communications or backhaul communications. The first set of common resources is allocated for common use by the wireless nodes of the wireless backhaul communications network. The wireless node may identify a second set of partitioned resources available for at least one of access communications or backhaul communications. The second set partitioned into a plurality of subsets each allocated for use by selected subsets of one or more of the wireless nodes of the wireless backhaul communications network.

To support communications via the backhaul network, a synchronized frame structure and unique network topologies may be established. Resources may be allocated to different wireless communication links based on the synchronized frame structure. Occupancy/availability indications are shown and described, which enable the local redistribution of resources to account for variations in signal quality and/or variations in traffic experienced by the backhaul network.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) can transmit a beam failure recovery request using contention-based physical random access channel (PRACH) resources to supplement and/or replace non-contention-based resources for transmitting the beam failure recovery request. The UE can reduce beam recovery latency by informing its intention for beam failure recovery by transmitting a beam failure recovery request during the random access channel (RACH) procedure. The base station may dedicate a set of RACH resources that can be used for both transmitting regular contention-based RACH messages and beam failure recovery request.

Abstract: When beamforming (e.g., via a millimeter wave system (mmW)) is used for wireless communication, a base station may transmit beams that are directed to certain directions. Due to the directional nature of the beams in the mmW system, an approach to determine a beam that provides a desirable gain is studied. The apparatus may be a user equipment (UE). The apparatus receives, from a base station, a plurality of signals through a plurality of beams of the base station, each of the plurality of beams corresponding to a respective antenna port of a plurality of antenna ports of the base station, where the plurality of signals include a plurality of beam reference signals, a plurality of beam refinement reference signals, a plurality of channel state information reference signals (CSI-RSs), or a combination thereof. The apparatus performs channel estimation for each beam of the plurality of beams from the plurality of antenna ports based on the plurality of signals.

Abstract: A UE may receive a directional synchronization subframe from a base station and transmit a scheduling request to the base station during a time period based on the directional synchronization subframe. The scheduling request may enable a base station to grant the UE resources to send a buffer status report (BSR). The time period may be associated with a random access channel (RACH) time period. The UE may also transmit a scheduling request within a frequency region of the RACH time period. The scheduling request may be transmitted based on a received indication of a set of subcarrier, a cyclic shift, or a sequence index. In some examples, the resources used by the UE to send the BSR may include physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) or physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) resources.
