Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate illegible display due to difference between languages and the types of characters being used by displaying the character information of first character type to be displayed after converting it into a character string of second specific character type depending on the identifier. SOLUTION: In the case of normal display mode, a read out display data based on ASCII code is fed, as it is, to a display section and character display is executed using alphabet, for example. In the case of kana display mode, a decision is made whether a character string based on ASCII code read out from a TOC memory as the character information to be displayed can be converted into kana or not. More specifically, a decision is made whether the character string is romaji type or not and character display is execute, as it is, by alphabet or the like if it is not romaji type. If it is kana convertible character string, it is converted into a kana display data before being fed to the display section.

The stored amt. N of the RAM 13 is monitored by the SC 11, and when the stored amt. N becomes smaller than a prescribed value, write operation in the RAM 13 is resumed at a high speed rate.

Subsequently, when a reproducing key is pressed, the reproducing progressing data stored in the memory 11a is read out, and an optical head 3 is controlled for the disk 1 based on the reproducing progressing data, so as to start reading sound data. Afterward, the management information is read out of the disk 1, and is stored in a buffer RAM 13, and then the reproducing operation is executed based on the management information. Consequently, since it is not necessary to store a large data amt. of management information in the memory 11a because of quick reproduction, the incurrence of making the device large-sized can be prevented.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a reproducing apparatus which simplifies a rotation control circuit and which reduces a circuit scale by a method wherein a disk is turned by a CAV system so as to perform reproduction. CONSTITUTION: A disk 1 in which information has been recorded by a CLV system is turned and driven by a CAV system so as to read out data. In this case, the output of a position sensor 22 is input to a radius information detection part 11a in a system controller 11, and a radius position (r) at present is detected. According to the radius position (r), a control signal is sent to a BPF 10a and a VCO 8c. In the VCO 8c, a center frequency is changed, and a reproducing clock is output according to the linear velocity of the radius position (r). When a processing operation according to the radius position (r) is performed in this manner, the pseudoclock of a PLL circuit is avoided, a jitter is reduced, an error rate is reduced, and the data can be reproduced well from a signal which is read out by the CAV system.
