Abstract:
The invention relates to a braided rope for bend-over-sheave applications consisting essentially of n braided primary strands being made of polymeric filaments, which rope has an oblong cross-section with aspect ratio in the range 1.2-4.0. Such a rope shows markedly improved service life performance in cyclic bend-over-sheave applications. The invention also relates to the use of a braided rope according to the invention as a load-bearing member in bend-over-sheave applications; and to a system comprising such a rope and at least one sheave with a groove, the dimensions of which groove are adapted to the rope dimensions. ® KIPO & WIPO 2008

A mechanical transmission (1), particularly of the chain type, comprising a transmission chain (2) constituted by a plurality of mutually articulated links (3), so as to form a transmission chain (2) that is closed in a loop, and partially wound around at least two sprockets (4); the links (3) of the transmission chain (2) are made of multilayer closed-loop fabric fibers concatenated with each other in such a manner as to give rise to a transmission chain of the type that is flexible in all directions; the end portion (5a) of each link (3) passes through the corresponding end portion (5b) of the adjacent link (3), partially wrapping around it and having a transverse tapered region so as to give the articulation defined between the two links (3) the shape of a so-called spherical toggle.

A method of coupling first (100) and second (200) ropes together, such as to form a mooring line is disclosed. Moreover a method of forming eyes (16) as a rope termination is disclosed. According to the first aspect the method comprises the step of forming an eye end termination (116) on the first rope (100) by coupling at least one pair of subropes (114) in the first rope core (112) together to thereby form at least part of a first loop (150, 152) of the eye end termination; and coupling at least one further pair of subropes (114) in the first rope core (112) together to thereby form at least part of a further loop (150, 152) of the eye end termination, said further loop being separate from the first loop. The loops of the eye end termination of the first rope and the loops of the eye end termination of the second rope are then mounted on a connecting spool (58) to couple the ropes together. According to the second aspect, the method also comprises forming at least two eyes as an end termination, wherein each eye is formed by splicing a multi-strand coupling rope (18) to a pair of subropes (14a, 14b). A corresponding mooring line and a rope are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a high strength fibers comprising a coating of cross-linked silicone polymer, and ropes made thereof. The fibers are preferably high performance polyethylene (HPPE) fibers. The coating comprising a cross-linked silicone polymer is made from a coating composition comprising a cross-linkable silicone polymer. The rope shows markedly improved service life performance in bending applications such as cyclic bend-over-sheave applications. The invention also relates to the use of a cross-linked silicone polymer in a rope for an improvement of bend fatigue resistance.
