A jacket substantially retains the plurality of strands.

The invention relates to a method for producing a strand or cable (20), in which fibres (2) and/or wires are twisted on a twisting point (3) to form the strand or cable (20). According to the invention the fibres (2) and/or wires are coated with a liquefied matrix material (4) in front of and/or at the twisting point (3) and are embedded in the matrix material (4) during twisting. The fibres (2) and/or wires are immersed in the matrix material in front of and/or at the twisting point (3) and the formed strand or the formed cable (20) are cooled after the twisting in order for the matrix material (4) to solidify, preferably by air or in a cooling liquid, for example water. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out the method and to a cable which can be produced by means of the method.

A steel cord (10) for reinforcing rubber product comprised core strands (12) and outer strands (14), the outer strands (14) are helically twisted around the core strands (12). Each of the stands including core strands (12) and outer strands (14) comprises core steel filaments (20) with the number of m and outer steel filaments (22) with the number of n. the diameter of the core steel filament (20) in the core strand (12) is Dec, the diameter of the outer steel filament (22) in the core strand (12) is Doc, the diameter of the core steel filament (20) in the outer strand (14) is Deo, the diameter of the outer steel filament (22) in the outer strand (14) is Doo, the ratio of Dec/Doc is not less than 1.04, the ratio of Dco/Doo is not less than 103, the ratio of Doc/Deo is not less than 1. The core steel filaments (20) and outer steel filaments (22) are polygonally preformed before being twisted into strands. The steel cord (10) is used for reinforcing off-the-road tire.

A steel cord used for reinforcing rubber product with an oval cross-section has a structure of m+n, while m is the number of core wires (26) and n is the number of the outer layer wires (22). The core wire (26) is untwisted while m is 1 or the core wires (26) are untwisted and aligned in parallel while m is between 2 and 4, and the outer layer wires (22) are twisted around said core wires (26). The core wires (26) are oval wires and the outer layer wires (22) are round wires. The wires (22, 26) in the steel cord have a carbon content not less than 0.60%.
