Abstract:
Systems and methods for a permeable pavement system are described. The permeable pavement system includes blocks designed to facilitate water seepage between the blocks and to permit water storage within the blocks. The blocks may be cabled together to create paving units that facilitate installation and maintenance of the pavement, system. The permeable pavement system may also be heated to a predetermined range with one of electrical energy and hydronic heating.
Abstract:
A tiling or paving apparatus comprising a plurality of trapeziform tiling or paving pieces each having a substantially trapeziform shape defined by two parallel edges of unequal length separated by two converging edges of substantially equal length which converge at a convergence angle common to each trapeziform tiling or paving piece. The apparatus includes a polygonal tiling or paving arrangement adapted to present a generally polygonal shape defined by a plurality of edges (preferably more than four edges) wherein the length of each edge of the plurality of edges of the polygonal arrangement is substantially equal to the length of a parallel edge of a trapeziform piece. The length of each of the two converging edges of a trapeziform piece is substantially equal to the length of the longer of the two parallel edges thereof.

Abstract:
An irregular, tessellated building unit comprises x primary elements, wherein x is an integer equal to or greater than 1. The primary element is a rotational tessellation having a plural pairs of sides extending in a generally radial direction from plural vertices, respectively. In each pair, the two sides are rotationally spaced by an angle that is divided evenly into 360 degrees. Preferably, all of the sides are irregularly shaped, but one or more sides could be wholly or partially straight. Optionally, spacers are provided on the sides of each unit. A wide variety of units may be constructed having different numbers and arrangements of primary elements. As all the units are combinations of primary elements, they readily mate with each other. A surface covering comprises a multiplicity of units assembled to form a continuous surface without overlap between units and without substantial gaps between units. A structure, such as a wall or column can be formed of building units of the invention. Because of the irregular side configurations, and different sizes and shapes of individual units, the resulting surface or structure has a natural, non-repeating pattern appearance. Optionally, minor surface and edges variations are made from unit to unit to further enhance the natural appearance of the surface covering or structure.
Abstract:
The invention relates to pavement material for traffic areas which consists of artificial stone material. Said pavement material is characterized by the following features: (a) first pavement elements are provided which have a single first shape or several different shapes; (b) second pavement elements of a single second shape or several different second shapes are provided in individual areas of the pavement material; (c) third pavement elements are provided which have a single third shape or several different third shapes; (d) the second pavement elements are at least mainly enclosed by several third pavement elements in such a manner that a transitional zone is formed to the subsequent pavement area of the first pavement elements; (e) the second shape or the second shapes is (are) different from the first shape or the first shapes, and the third shape or third shapes is (are) different both from the first shape or first shapes and the second shape or second shapes.

Abstract:
In floorings with coupled plastic tiles (2) of e.g. 25x25 cm, it is known that for various markings in a flooring of a first colour, it is possible to make use of smaller and differently coloured modular tiles (4), e.g. of 5x5 cm, corresponding to the modular arrangement of the coupling means. It is not possible, then, to make the side length of the small tiles still shorter, but according to the invention it is, nevertheless, possible to achieve a higher degree of resolution of the markings, viz. in using the particular side length at only one, two or three sides of tiles of a reduced area (8, 12), when the system also comprises corresponding complementary tiles (10, 14) of the first colour. Already with a diagonal separation of the tiles (8, 10) widely improved possibilities for the differentiation of e.g. a type face will be obtained.
Abstract:
A method of installing a porcelain tile installation for vehicular use is provided. The method can include covering a compacted aggregate surface with a tile bed composition; compacting the tile bed; installing a plurality of porcelain tiles and spacers on the compacted tile bed surface in a predetermined pattern, such that each respective porcelain tile includes a thickness of about 3 cm to about 5 cm; such that one or more spacers includes a base component positioned under adjacent tiles and a vertical component positioned between a sidewall of the adjacent tiles, such that the vertical component provides a joint defined by a spaced distance between the adjacent tiles; adding a polymeric sand composition to each respective joint to obtain a joint-filled porcelain tile surface; compacting the joint-filled porcelain tile surface with a compactor; and activating the polymeric sand composition to obtain the porcelain tile installation for vehicular use.
