Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric actuator capable of protecting a sealing or insulating portion of an electrical connecting part to a stack from high static pressure or chemical effects. SOLUTION: This piezoelectric actuator for use in a fuel injector comprises a stack of one or more piezoelectric elements fitted into inside of an accumulator volume chamber of the injector, electrodes inside the stack, and an electrical connector arrangement including a base portion and a stem portion projecting from the base portion. The base portion defines a base end face for keeping in contact with an adjacent end face relating to the stack. The base portion of a body member further defines a seal face for keeping in contact with an inner face defined by the accumulator chamber. The electrical connector arrangement is further provided with a terminal means including first and second terminal members disposed internal to the external boundary of the body member and first and second contact faces. Each of first and second contact plates is electrically connected with one first end. The first and second terminal members are connectable with an external power supply. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine provided with an outer valve and an inner valve needle, for achieving ability to inject at three different injection rates. SOLUTION: The fuel injector for an internal combustion engine has a nozzle body 36 provided in a nozzle bore 42, the inner valve 16 which is engageable with an inner valve seating 48 to control fuel delivery through one or more first nozzle outlets 38, and the outer valve 18 which is received within the nozzle bore and engageable with the outer valve seating 48 to control fuel delivery through one or more second nozzle outlets 40. An actuator 14 for controlling movement of the inner and outer valves transmits an actuation force to the inner and outer valves so as to permit either movement of the inner valve only to provide a first injection state in which fuel is delivered through only the or each of the first outlets, or movement of the outer valve only to provide a second injection state in which fuel is delivered through only the or each of the second outlets. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish good positioning accuracy and to prevent an occupant from being released during a rollover event or subsequent impact. SOLUTION: The air bag for side impact provided with a self-tension type lower edge in order to position the air bag during side impact, a rollover accident or subsequent impact is fixed to a vehicle along a roof rail between a front pillar and a rear pillar 121, 122. A pair of tethers 125, 126 is fixed to the air bag at a lower portion and is successively fixed to the front pillar and the rear pillar. A plurality of substantially V shape tethers 108 of zero length are extended from the lower portion to define a plurality of chambers. When these chambers are inflated, the lower portion of the air bag is reduced and derives tension relative to the tether. When the air bag for side impact is inflated, it is positioned itself between the occupant and a vehicle window and is retained to the position by tension formed by the inflation chambers. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved variable orifice type injection nozzle and a method of manufacturing the injection nozzle. SOLUTION: The injection nozzle used in a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine, has an inner valve needle 26 which is engageable with an inner valve seating 24 to control fuel supply through one or more first nozzle outlets 14, and an outer valve 28 which is engageable with an outer valve seating 24 to control fuel supply through one or more second nozzle outlets 16. The outer valve is provided with a valve bore 36 within which at least a part of the inner valve needle is received. Coupling means 46 is provided for coupling movement of the inner valve needle to the outer valve in circumstances in which the inner valve needle is moved away from the inner valve seating by an amount exceeding a predetermined threshold amount D. This allows the outer valve to be lifted away from the outer valve seating to provide a high rate of injection. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

SOLUTION: This injection nozzle 4 for the internal combustion engine is provided with a nozzle body 6 having a first nozzle outlet 12, a second nozzle outlet 18 and a first delivery chamber 50 for fuel, an outer valve needle 10 engageable with an outer valve seating 24 to control fuel injection through the first nozzle outlet 12, and an inner valve needle 14 engageable with an inner valve seating 25 to control fuel injection through the second nozzle outlet 18. The outer valve needle 10 is provided with an axial bore 16 within which the inner valve needle 14 is slidable. The injection nozzle 4 is further provided with a sleeve member 82 coupled to the inner valve needle 14 and a ring member 80 coupled to the outer valve needle 10, wherein the ring member 80 is brought into engagement with the sleeve member 82 when the outer valve needle 10 is moved axially through a distance that is greater than a predetermined distance L so as to cause axial movement of the inner valve needle 14.
